Qui sommes-nous

The Shanti-Bangladesh Partnership -Initiative for Development and Peace - is a network of dedicated and friendly people of all ages who are working towards better living conditions for the population in Bangladesh. Shanti has been a registered charitable association and a member of the Joint Welfare Association since 1983.
Shanti is the Bengali word for "peace". The club developed out of meeting people in Bangladesh.

Our work
• Shanti stands for partnership and sustainable development cooperation as equals.
• We are working to improve the living conditions of the poor population in Bangladesh.
• The focus is on village development and education projects that often involve the whole family.
• In project development, we work closely with our partner organizations in Bangladesh.
•We have been sending volunteers to Bangladesh and organizing visits to our partners in Europe since the 1980s.
• From this, the concept of the "developmental learner" has developed - both sides learn from a volunteer assignment. They learn a lot about themselves, the two countries and the topic of development cooperation.

What we promote:
• School and education: village schools in rural Bangladesh; METI - Modern Education and Training Institute; DESI - Electrician training in rural Bangladesh
• Promotion of women: income-generating measures for women; Women's associations – fighting together for our rights.
• Rural development: agriculture - the aim is to intensify and diversify agriculture;
Income generating measures through microcredits, advice and training for building up micro-enterprises and increasing activities in agriculture; Education through the construction of pre-schools and by offering training courses eg. tailoring; Health – we support the building of wells and latrines, with training in hygiene and nutrition and with advice for pregnant women and families with small children; Promotion of women through the formation of women's groups.
• Pilot projects of our partner organizations IPSHIKHA and ASSB (Aloha Social Services Bangladesh)
