Qui sommes-nous

Give Us Wings is a nonprofit organization founded in 1999 that works at the grassroots level with people in Kenya and Uganda. We support community development projects, and the medical and education needs of the poorest of the poor in forgotten villages.

The organization´s approach was to be one of transformation, rather than merely direct aid.

The goal of the organization was to "fund the start up of community projects, train groups for economic self-sufficiency, and develop ways of meeting the medical and educational needs of the adults and children." They would work person-to-person to build and maintain trusting relationships with the people of the villages.

Give Us Wings currently works in three general locations: Nyaoga, Kenya and Tororo and Kayoro, Uganda. Within each of those locations Give Us Wings is helping the people develop projects in the areas of economic development, medical, and educational support that will eventually enable them to become self-sufficient.

Activities:
• Health Care: Give Us Wings, in collaboration with community groups, built and operates two clinics. One is in rural Uganda, St. John´s Kayoro Health Center II. The other is in rural Kenya, the Nyaoga Community Dispensary. These clinics provide affordable, quality health care to thousands of people each year.
• Education: Give Us Wings focuses on improving access to quality education for the children and women in our partner communities. Educating women and children is central to improving the health an productivity of families and communities. Give Us Wings offers adult literacy programs, young women’s education and educational sponsorships so that women can support their families and pay for their children to attend school. The Family to Family Sponsorship Program in Uganda focuses on helping families understand the importance of education and ensuring that one of the children receives a high quality education by providing support to the entire family.
• Economic Sustainability: Building Businesses for Family Sustainability (BBFS) is Give Us Wings´ unique and effective micro-financing initiative. The BBFS program has three main components: business education, business grants and loans and mentoring by a business professional.
• Family to Family Sponsorship Program: The goal of Give Us Wings´ Family to Family Sponsorship Program is to enable more children to realize their potential by helping families overcome obstacles that prevent their children from completing their education. The program is designed to help the entire family develop the skills necessary to build a sustainable future.
