Qui sommes-nous

Culture Squared (KULTURISTENHOCH2) is a non-profit project developed in 2015 by the Generationen-Zusammenhalt (Cross-generation) Foundation, a registered charitable foundation based in Hamburg.
In cooperation with the Hamburg Schools and Cultural Life, and against the background of growing old-age poverty, the project aims to encourage people aged 63 and older to use the diverse range of more than 100 Hamburg cultural institutions regularly and free of charge, together with a youthful companion from their district. The young participants pick up the elderly at home and accompany them to cultural events that they experience together. Together they go home again. The young people attend preparation workshops for the accompaniment of the elderly and receive a certificate for their honorary commitment. Event venues provide unsold tickets for free.
Mission:
• Culture Squared enables the joint experience of cultural events beyond age limits and at the same time promotes social responsibility within the neighbourhoods.
• Culture Squared brings old and young together and enables economically disadvantaged senior citizens to participate in the social and cultural life of Hamburg.
Aims:
• More contact in the neighbourhood: Culture Squared encourages the generations to get to know each other. Through mutual awareness the cohesion in the common district should be strengthened. The project uses the power of art and culture to be intermediaries between the generations.
• Dialogue between the generations: high school students are invited to learn new things in intergenerational encounters and to volunteer. All they need is openness to contact with older people. The adolescents are prepared for their voluntary involvement in internal workshops and receive external training under expert guidance.
• In a second step, senior citizens from the catchment area of Hamburg schools will be introduced to what Culture Squared offers and encouraged to participate. They receive two tickets, invite the young guest and experience together, for example. a concert, a reading, a play. Possibly incurred costs for bus and railway are paid for the seniors. Also cloakroom money and a drink in the interval are included.
• Cross-generation encounters in eight districts of Hamburg: high school students from eight Hamburg schools enjoy volunteering. 145 young people are ready to accompany the elderly - well prepared by training - at the cultural sites of Hamburg.
