Qui sommes-nous

10 Books A Home is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit whose mission is to empower children to break the cycle of poverty by fostering education-rich homes that prepare children for kindergarten success and later achievement. With a focus on early learning, parent engagement, and parent education, 10 Books A Home seeks to ensure that children develop kindergarten-readiness skills, parents know how important early education is, and parents spend more time engaged with their children in activities that nurture and develop their cognitive, language, social, and emotional abilities.

10BH is distinguishing itself by preparing children for school success before they fall behind and need help catching up. Costly consequences such as special education, repeating grades, incarceration, teen pregnancies, unemployment and myriad intervention programs that get involved once problems have emerged can be prevented by making sure children are prepared for school and live in homes that support their education.

10 Books A Home has developed a two-year program called Living-room Literacy to ensure that children develop kindergarten-readiness skills and parents support their children’s early education in the home and school.

Living-room Literacy provides children and parents with educational services and materials that ensure:
1. Homes are education-rich
2. Children spend more time engaged in learning
3. Parents spend more time engaged with their children in learning
4. Parents have more information about their children as learners and know more about the school system so that they can support their children’s education in and out of the home

As a result of completing Living-room Literacy, children will be prepared to succeed in kindergarten and will live in homes that support and will continue to support their education.
