Qui sommes-nous

Merazonia is a dynamic wildlife rescue and rehabilitation centre located on 100 acres of Amazon rainforest, near Mera, Ecuador, South America.
Merazonia started in 2004 and is built by volunteers for volunteers (and animals of course) and this remains a big part of what makes Merazonia special. All founding members of Merazonia have a background in volunteering and worked as volunteers at several wildlife centres throughout the continent, before joining forces and embarking on a new adventure: creating their own wildlife rescue centre, with a focus on rehabilitation.

We combine passion for nature with a professional approach on animal care and release, along with rainforest conservation and wildlife monitoring.

Our work
We are currently caring for about 100 animals, including: capuchin, woolly, red howler and tamarin monkeys; many species of parrots and macaws; kinkajous and small mammals. We also house a puma and sometimes other felines. Most are brought to us by the Ministry of Environment, after confiscating them from illegal traders.

Rehabilitation programsHere at Merazonia we provide a centre of rehabilitation for rescued trafficked animals, as well as for the many animals in Ecuador rescued from inadequate care in individual’s homes.
We will continue to responsibly rehabilitate and release animals and ecery year manage to release more. In 2018, we achieved two long term goals: the release of a group of woolly monkeys and of a group of red howler monkeys.
The animals rehabilitated in 2019 include a neotropical otter, a group of tamarin monkeys and a group of blue-headed parrots. We have also released many sloths and other solitary animals.
