About us

KiTma - Strength & Knowledge is a non-profit organization founded in April 2013 by young academics, which deals on a scientific basis with the topics of migration, racism and globalization in particular. The founding members have set themselves the goal of confronting prejudice and racism with strength and knowledge, as well as advocating a society in which everyone has equal opportunities and can realize their ambitions. Through their work, they encourage and support others to do the same. KiTma derives from the Ethiopian / Eritrean phrase "kidu temaharu" (language: Tigrinya) and means "Go and learn!"
The aim of the association is to use its workshops and lectures to convey its findings and raise awareness on an intercultural level. Many of its members have a migrant background themselves, and can therefore personally relate to the issues, which ensures a global perspective. In addition, KiTma is involved in various educational projects in other countries.

Projects:
• Projects in Ethiopia
• Educational projects in Germany
• Project Genesis: Project Genesis was founded in 2014 by founding member Weyni Tesfai and marks the beginning of Kitma's project work and engagement abroad. In Germany, we take it for granted that there are chairs to sit on at school. For a majority of students at the Mai Machewa School in Ethiopia, however, this feeling is new. In the classrooms, stones and rocks served as seats. The school is located at an altitude of about 2000 m in the highlands, which is why frosty, cool morning temperatures are common. Therefore it is not surprising that students in the classrooms freeze and often catch cold. KiTma, supported by Milias Coffee Wuppertal, has tackled this issue and equipped the school with school desks, tables and writing materials.
