Qui sommes-nous
THE SURFER KIDS, founded in 2012, is a registered Trust and Non-Profit Organization (NPO). THE SURFER KIDS was originally founded as the Social Outreach Arm of UNRAVEL SURF TRAVEL, a surf & travel business partnership between husband & wife Hermann Vivier and Jenya Zhivaleva.
UNRAVEL SURF TRAVEL specializes in Surf Trips throughout Southern Africa and provides ongoing support to THE SURFER KIDS, which includes an Outreach Day with THE SURFER KIDS on every two-week Surf Trip of the Garden Route!
Our mission statement is:
"The empowerment of marginalized and impoverished youths through character building activities that teach commitment and dedication." Our primary medium for achieving this objective is surfing.
Our work
THE SURFER KIDS have since evolved into an fully fledged independent organization, with a Core Surf Program that runs five days a week and a team comprising 3 full-time and 2 part-time members.
THE SURFER KIDS is funded primarily through an innovative Volunteer Program as well as donations from private individuals, businesses and organizations.
In 2016 THE SURFER KIDS realized their long term goal, and achieved their most significant milestone to date, by opening a permanent headquarters at Diaz Beach.
THE SURFER KIDS Center at Diaz Beach houses an equipment inventory, a surfboard repair facility and a media center with high speed Internet. It has enabled The Surfer Kids to vastly expand the scope and efficacy of their program.
Programs
• Core Surf Program: THE SURFER KIDS Core Surf Program offers free surf lessons to marginalized children from the poorest communities in Mossel Bay. We encourage all the children who join our program to return as often as possible, provided that they show dedication and commitment toward learning to surf. Our long term goal is to foster empowerment amongst these youths and we believe that the best way of doing that is by teaching commitment and dedication.
• Volunteer Program: Our Volunteer Program provides crucial support for our Core Surf Program and through our Core Surf Program we work to empower some of Mossel Bay's most vulnerable children. The program fees directly support our Core Surf Program, even after you've gone home.
Hermann Vivier is the Co-Founder, Chairman & Program Manager of THE SURFER KIDS.
For other net participants we can offer an expert guidance through trained staff, give an expert opinion, procure expert information and establish new contacts in the field of our work.
