About us

A stage for the world's youth - the Children’s Culture Caravan! If it didn't exist, it would have to be invented in times of increasing racism, xenophobia and chauvinism.
For more than twenty years, the Children’s Culture Caravan has provided the world's youth with a stage in theatres, cultural centres and festivals - and especially in schools. With theatre, dance, circus, acrobatics and music, young artists from the Global South show scenes from their everyday lives, from the lives of their families, peers and neighbourhoods. These performances are characterized by high artistic quality and the content of the often very precarious living conditions of the young people. In this way, the young artists of the Children’s Culture Caravan become authentic reporters from the Global South. These (young) people get a face and a voice here. In the creative peer-to-peer dialogue between young people from the Global South and young people in Europe, the foundation stone is laid to work together for global justice, to move from diverse knowledge to action, entirely in the spirit of global citizenship.
The Children’s Culture Caravan - an international network of over 350 cultural youth groups from 65 countries working together worldwide.
In mid 2015, the nationwide, non-profit association Children’s Culture Caravan. was founded in Cologne. What all members have in common is their enthusiasm for the Children’s Culture Caravan. Because Children’s Culture Caravan means joie de vivre and aesthetics, cross-border encounters with young people, enthusiasm for foreign things and mutual “development aid”. The Children’s Culture Caravan association stabilizes the financial basis and at the same time expands the number of supporters in Germany.
Our goals:
• Mediation of global perspectives: Complex relationships are made visible and tangible through artistic methods.
• Experience of self-efficacy: The young people feel a sense of achievement and have the important experience that they can achieve something positive themselves.
• Individual & social transformation through culture: By changing one's own perspective and personality, transformation processes in society as a whole are supported.
• Support for international partner projects: The social and cultural work of the international partners is financially supported. In addition, they can make new contacts and expand their network by participating in the Children’s Culture Caravan.
In Corona times, the meetings will take place completely digitally. For this purpose, differentiated digital formats have been developed for all current groups.
Ulla Theisling, Iris Dünnwald and Bernd Lichtenberg are board members of the Children’s Culture Caravan.

On request, we can offer other net participants advice, give a presentation, and provide up-to-date specialist information and contacts in the field of our work.
