Qui sommes-nous

ARMMAN is an India-based non-profit leveraging mHealth to create cost-effective, scalable, gender-sensitive, non- linear, systemic solutions to improve access of pregnant women and mothers to preventive information and services along with training health workers to reduce maternal and child mortality/morbidity. It adopts a “tech plus touch” approach by leveraging the health worker network of the government and partner NGOs along with the deep mobile penetration.

Our Vision
A world where every mother is empowered and every child is healthy.
Our Approach
a) Improving preventive information access
• mMitra sends free critical preventive care information weekly/twice-a-week to mobile-phones of women during pregnancy and infancy in a chosen time slot and language, timed to the stage of pregnancy/child’s age. mMitra is a sandbox for testing innovation to be scaled through Kilkari. Reach: 2.3 million with approximately 300,000 women currently enrolled
• Kilkari is a mobile health education service (similar to mMitra) implemented in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) and available in five languages. Reach: 17.9 million women; with 2.5 million women currently enrolled; pan-India spread in 5 years.
Focus Areas
● Increased focus on high risk factors during pregnancy and infancy (to be piloted in mMitra sandbox) through two-way communication and multimedia content focused on risk factors via WhatsApp and/or thin app.
● partnerships with AI for Social Good at Google Research India; CRCS, Harvard University; and IIT Chennai for predictive data analytics/AI to be piloted through mMitra; Turn.IO for WhatsApp pilot and IIM Ahmedabad for studies including cost-effectiveness analyses and data analytics.
● Scale-up of Kilkari and Mobile Academy to all states by 2025
b) Capacity building of health workers
• Mobile Academy is an mHealth-based refresher training program in collaboration with MoHFW for frontline health workers (ASHAs). Reach: 165,000; pan-India spread in 5 years
• ANM and MO Academy: We are partnering with MoHFW to develop protocols for high-risk pregnancy management for auxiliary nurse midwives (ANMs), Medical Offi cers (MO) and specialists. Next step is training of ANMs/MOs.
• In severely underserved communities, women leaders are trained to become health friends (Arogya Sakhis) to provide home-based pregnancy and infancy care. 253 Arogya Sakhis trained in Maharashtra
Planned Focus Areas
● ANM and MO Academies and Mobile Academy 2.0 will pilot tech-enabled remote training, two-way communication support (WhatsApp helpdesk/ thin app and call center) with multimedia content.
Implementation At-scale
● Largest maternal messaging program in the world - Kilkari - in partnership with MoHFW
● Largest mobile-based training program - Mobile Academy - in partnership with MoHFW
● 2 of only 5 scaled maternal messaging programs globally - mMitra and Kilkari
