About us

The Nepal Relief Association Aachen which consists of 300 members was founded in 1990. Primarily, the Nepal Relief Association Aachen takes care of children and adult education, in particular women. We help the handicapped people in particular by placing wheelchairs at their disposal and by giving them ergotherapeutical treatments. In addition to that, health camps are carried out and information meetings are organized in cooperation with the Nepal Relief Association to strengthen the environmental consciousness. Subject matter of our educational work is an understanding of solidarity and strengthening of the own initiative, in particular when smallest loans are granted within the framework of so-called "income generation projects". Apart from that, we work against children's prostitution. Our major projects are irrigation projects in arid areas to improve the harvests.

Some of the projects which we carried out:

· teaching of women to read and write: In the Gorkha area, women have been taught to read and write for years, both, during a six-months period and for several years
· school buildings: 20 new school buildings / extensions and improvements as well as furnishings with benches, school material etc.
· income generation: in the Rasuwa area, organization of women's groups that can get loans in the form of smallest monthly amounts
· irrigation projects in Rasuwa: villages can have a third harvest
· Shanti-leprosy-aid: support of the Shanti-leprosy-aid by road construction, planting and orders which are of direct benefit to lepers and their families
· Terrai: support of orphans taken care of by Agape e.V. by the purchase of milk cows and sheds
· hygiene and environmental protection and subjects of running projects in the Rasuwa area.

The founder, Helmut Falter, has been in charge of the Nepal Relief Association Aachen as a chairman since its foundation..

We can communicate information in the fields of irrigation and teaching women to read and write and arrange for corresponding contacts. Apart from that, we are in touch with projects in Tibet and Zanskar.
