Qui sommes-nous

The Centre for Social Equity and Inclusion (CSEI) is concerned with deepening democracy and developing our body politic by enhancing the enjoyment by excluded communities of their social, economic and cultural (SEC) rights. Three decades of rights-based development work by CSEI members in terms of community mobilizing, networking, research and campaigning forms the impetus behind the establishment of CSEI in 2009. We recognize the widespread prevalence of exclusion and discrimination against Dalits, Adivasis, Muslims and other socially excluded communities in our society, and the specific vulnerabilities of women, children and youth within these communities, as regards access to education, employment and governance. Poverty, disability, physical/geographic in-accessibility, forms of illnesses and other context specific characteristics make the picture more complex, demanding sustained efforts in unravelling and addressing exclusion independently and intersectionally. CSEI therefore undertakes advocacy-oriented research, social equity audits, policy advocacy and the piloting of model interventions with members of excluded communities in the critical areas of education and employment. Embedded in the experiences of excluded communities, CSEI works to bring together all relevant stakeholders: the excluded communities, state actors, civil society organizations, corporate sector and others. Consistent interventions in the above areas are undertaken through the CSEI Bihar office.
‘Exclusion – Equity – Inclusion’ are our watch words. A critical role for CSEI is resource and capacity building on issues of exclusion-equity-inclusion through field-level research and the production of learning materials (research papers, policy briefs, position papers, documentaries, etc.) and training modules on social equity and inclusion. We are linked to networks of professionals, human rights activists, academics, civil society organizations and networks including Adivasi, Dalit and Muslim women and men leaders across India.

Our Vision:
A just and inclusive society where every human being has equal opportunities and resources, and adequate capabilities to harness their potential, realize their rights and fulfil their responsibilities to live in fellowship, with dignity and liberty.

Our Mission:
To promote the socio-economic and cultural rights of socially excluded children and youth, in collaboration with community-led civil society organizations, through advocating for inclusive policies and provisions and promoting equitable outcomes and the realization of the rights to education, skills training and employment/entrepreneurship for these children and youth.

What we do:
• Promoting social equity and inclusion with children
• Social equity audits in education
• Strengthening community led organizations (CLO)
• Promotion youth leadership and empowerment
• Campaign and networking
