About us

Smiles Africa International Youth Development Initiative (SAIYDI), registered in 2017, is a non-profit civic platform of change makers committed to develop and empower young people, organizations, institutions and communities at the grassroots in the promotion of democratic governance, human right, health and well-being, accountability, sustainable peace building, child development, gender, entrepreneurship and youth participation.
SAIYDI started off as Smiles Africa International in 2005 as a youth leadership, empowerment and vocational skills development organization training youth on self-development, reproductive health education including HIV and AIDS, human rights and governance.

SAIYDI seeks to launch itself as a civic hub and an innovative “think and do” tank poised with the onerous mandate of enhancing the quality of youth and minority communities in making contributions to participatory democratic governance.

The core focus of the organization is to develop capacities of youth and other minority group in advancing the promotion and protection of all-inclusive human rights, participatory democratic governance, environmental sustainability, child development, social inclusion, leadership and entrepreneur skills development and improved healthcare through health interventions in the area of substance abuse, sexual reproductive health, and preventive healthcare using the human rights approach to its interventions.

What we do:
• To develop the capacity of youth and other marginalized communities to make contributions to policy development and participate in the democratic process and governance.
• To reduce the incidence of drug use, promote harm reduction and provide an effective path for rehabilitation from drug abuse assisting the society in preventing the scourge of drugs in Africa
• To arrest the current moral decline in society revitalizing an entire culture and restore honesty, integrity and trust to African and create a more productive society composed of responsible individuals, stronger families, and healthier communities
• To provide basic life skills to people
• SAIYDI was one of the first organization to introduce free computer training in Benin City.
