Down Syndrome Society of Kenya (DSSK) is a nonprofit charity organization working for the rights and welfare of persons living with the Down Syndrome. The society was registered under the registrar of society’s Act in December 2003.
Our chief objective is to use a rights based approach in achieving total inclusion and human rights for persons with Disabilities in the society.

Objectives:
• To create awareness among all sectors of The Society including the general public, healthcare professionals, educational institutions about Down Syndrome and how to address it.
• To offer support and assistance including counseling, information, networking, to persons affected with Down syndrome in Kenya and to do all within its means to promote their welfare and well being.
• To become a visible and vocal advocate for the rights of persons with Down syndrome and to influence policy on the same.
• To form branches and affiliations in various urban and rural areas of Kenya.
• To affiliate and network with local and international organizations with objectives and purposes altogether or in part similar to those of The Society.
• To raise funds to finance its operations, and to invest the monies of the Society in investments, securities or property thought fit, subject to such conditions as may be required by law and subject also as hereinafter provided.
• To purchase or otherwise acquire and to own any property, movable and immovable assets or investments that would enhance and facilitate the attainment of the object of the Society.
• To promote and encourage research into the causes, manifestation and treatment of Down syndrome and to make these information as widely available as possible.
• To do all such things as are incidental or conducive to the attainment of all or any of the above objects.

Projects:
• Access to Justice: Research on the rule of law and persons with intellectual disabilities (acquire and analyze qualitative and quantitative information and data pertaining to access to justice for persons with intellectual disability. Aim of this research is to establish a mechanism that will see PWIDs dignity and respect upheld. Developing a curriculum to train court users who are a caucus of the justice system.
• Promote good citizenship and self-advocacy skills for persons with Down Syndrome and their parents: Participate in national days through activities of Greening Kenya and wildlife heritage.
• Self Advocacy and Employment Project: People with Down syndrome often have a limited voice in the decisions and changes that affect them, and self-advocacy is about magnifying that voice. Human Rights Training - Understanding the UN Convention on the rights of persons with disabilities.
