About us

MOSAIQ is critical of racism and power and offers marginalized voices a platform to intervene in social discourse, to question and redefine comments.
A mosaic has a multifaceted nature, consisting of many partial aspects. Several facets can result in a whole - but they don't have to. The collected, connected, discussion is a wealth - for the individual person, for a society. MOSAIQ is spelt in a confusing way. This was done deliberately, because confusion can also be positive: it offers opportunities for change! The Q - as in question- stands for the constant and necessary questioning of social discourses and structures.

Our work focuses on topics such as anti-Muslim racism and anti-Black racism, as well as its interaction with other forms of discrimination and exclusion practices. In addition, strategies and processes of democracy building are central. We offer various places where people can raise questions, think of alternatives, develop new things and express themselves artistically. We understand racism as a historically grown social construct that affects and is reproduced on all levels of society. Racism is associated with forms of power and hierarchy.

Projects:
• Kick-Off: The MOSAIQ Kick-Off for new members takes place in Hamburg once a year. A varied program awaits you for a weekend, interesting international guests and speakers, lectures, discussions and workshops.
• Poetic-Political: The "Poetry" workshop "Poetic-Political" invites participants to use creative writing to compose texts in verse and prose form and to articulate them through performance exercises and techniques.
• Active is a must: For weeks, young people from the Hamburg MOSAIQ network have been dealing with current social debates on the main topic “Active is a must” in the context of anti-Muslim racism.
• MOSAIQ in schools: MOSAIQ network members regularly visit different schools to draw attention to upcoming events. The aim of the network members is to pass on the knowledge gained through the network work. At the same time, as an association, we receive numerous workshop requests from schools. The interest in workshops critical of racism and discrimination in schools is growing; although the need has been there for ages. Under the motto "To Belong" we offer anti-discrimination and empowerment workshops, coupled with artistic formats such as photography, for school classes.
• Think tank: MOSAIQ also sees itself as a municipal think tank. As a think tank and platform for individuals and communities, MOSAIQ wants to share knowledge, resources and experiences. At the structural level, we want to bring about changes by passing on concrete demands and recommendations for action to people who are active locally.
• Be A Critical Mind: The aim of the Critical Minds is to develop a critical attitude towards power relations, racism and discrimination, to acquire knowledge, to promote exchange and to strengthen team building.
• Critical Whiteness: Further training: The aim is to gain a deeper understanding of the practical meaning of theoretical terms and concepts. In addition, their own white positioning in the context of structural racism, values, attitudes and practices will be reflected in the workshop
• Un-Dekade: ASR!: As part of the UN-DEKADE: ASR! we would like to establish recognition justice for black, African and Afrodiasporic people living throughout the city. In the first step, we focus on the perspectives and needs of young black, African and Afrodiasporic people in Hamburg.

Sally Riedel is the initiator and manager of MOSAIQ.

On request, we can provide advice for other network participants, give a presentation, and provide up-to-date specialist information and contacts in the field of our work.
