About us

Reach Out Nkokonjeru is a NGO, located at Nkokonjeru Buikwe district Uganda, that is committet to serve people with dignity and reduce human suffering by providing a holistic approach to overcome poverty in families and communities using appropriate agricultural technologies as well as secure and improve health through HIV prevention, treatment and care services to people infected and affected by HIV.
Reach Out Nkokonjeru Farmers Cooperative Society Ltd. (RONFACOS) was established in 2017 by the Director of Reach Out Nkokonjeru ParishHIV / AIDS Initiative (RONHAI) and other members. Since 2013 RONHAI has driven the initiative to bring micro-financing opportunities farmers in the community. The original aim was to empower especially women to participate in loan programs to support their agricultural business.

A community that is enjoying a decent life in a green environment, free of hunger, poverty and disease, where the most vulnerable are supported to attain self-sustainability.

Our mission.
To promote sustainable community livelihoods through income and food secuirty, environmental conservation, good health, and vulnerable family support.

The specific objectives of the Organisation are:
• To provide access to planting materials to the poor communities in the catchment area.
• To establish and strengthen farmer groups to enable them to do joint marketing of their agricultural produce for better incomes.
• To address the factors contributing to the spread of HIV/AIDS through building human capacities, by supporting women and youth with practical skills and establishing income generating activities for vulnerable women, children and youth.
• To create partnerships with other organizations locally and internationally, working towards improvement of people’s welfare to facilitate rural development.
• To empower and support the general community members in the health and development issues.
• To support special efforts that reach out to the most disadvantaged members of the communities that we serve.
• To collect, document, share and disseminate experiences, lessons learnt and best practices for poverty reduction in rural communities of the project area.
• To assist other health service providers in their development through training and sharing of experiences.
• To support networking and advocacy for the enactment of policies and scaling up initiatives that support equity in health and empowerment services provision.

Activities:
• RONHAI under sustainable agriculture program established a rice demo garden to promote the quality & quantity of rice production in Buikwe district
• Training in liquid soap preparing.
• Piggery project
• RONHAI is working on malaria prevention in Nkokonjeru
• RONHAI hosted a training on compost- the first session of a series in perm gardening and nutrition
• RONHAI is hosting a PEPFAR/ Peace Corps training on how to implement sustainable interventions for OVC (Orphans and Vulnerable Children) in Uganda. PEPFAR focuses on HIV epidemic control within this population.
• Maize project: Reach Out supplied farming inputs (seeds, fertilizer, herbicides, spray kits) on a loan basis. Farmer beneficiaries are not required to begin loan repayment for 3-6 months- until they begin to harvest and market their crops.
• Our SACCO (Savings and Credit Cooperative) will soon officially open its doors. In an area where there is no formal banking infrastructure, it will allow community members to safely store their money and apply for loans.
• Reach Out Nkokonjeru provides computer training for pupils coming from schools around. The project includes 10 working stations with satellite internet, solar system which provides power and a thunder arrester.
