The A.R.R.O.W. Foundation is a non-profit organisation, focused on developing literacy skills for children who need it the most, using the highly effective A.R.R.O.W. Literacy programme. Since 2004 A.R.R.O.W. has been available in Trinidad and Tobago with its office based in Port-of-Spain the only registered and accredited A.R.R.O.W. centre in the region. With the generous help of our sponsors, the programme has helped thousands of students in over 200 schools across Trinidad and Tobago.
A.R.R.O.W., an acronym for (Aural, Read, Respond, Oral, Write) is a programme developed by Dr Colin Lane in the UK based on learning through self-voice techniques, whilst undertaking various programs covering reading, spelling, dictation, speech and listening skills, which produce significant results in children and adults who have learning difficulties across the spectrum as well as those who do not. Dr Lane’s research has spanned almost 30 years when he first developed the multi-sensory approach.
A.R.R.O.W. has been known to alter neural processes of students, particularly with references to internalising skills. The self-reinforcing response of students undertaking A.R.R.O.W. promotes motivation and interest with resulting increases in attention and self-esteem. Every aspect of the A.R.R.O.W. technique has been designed to connect and strengthen wiring in the brain that significantly changes and improves auditory skills, short term memory, and the overall learning ability as well as those areas already mentioned.

Services:
• A.R.R.O.W. Private Tuition: At our office located in Port of Spain, we provide the eight-hour A.R.R.O.W. Programme managed by fully trained A.R.R.O.W. Tutors. We begin with assessments that will provide us with the reading and spelling stage of each student. They will then be put onto the self-voice multi-sensory programme at his or her level for progression. Initially guided by the tutor, students will soon be able to navigate their own way on the programme, hence taking control of their own learning, as tutors remain present and readily available to assist the student when needed throughout the session. Each session is one hour, and it is recommended that an hour per day - from anything from one day to six days per week - is maintained until the completion of the programme. When the eight hours have been completed, final assessments will be given to the student to establish their progress in reading and spelling. If recommended, additional programmes can be continued. As a result of the restrictions imposed by the pandemic, we have been able to temporarily adjust the way tutors support students on the A.R.R.O.W. programme, so that it an be undertaken remotely, through the use of online video and telephone calls.
