About us

LOTUS (an acronym for Living Without Tears or Worries) International was founded in June 2009 and is based in the village of Buschow in the beautiful Havelland, in Germany, but also has a partner organisation in Aluthgama, Sri Lanka.
We are a group that has come together to do something actively to counter discrimination and to secure a better future for people in different regions of the world, especially in Sri Lanka. Above all, children and their future are dear to us, but we also want to help old and poor people.

We focus on the following:
• Education and upbringing,
• Aid for juveniles and the elderly,
• International understanding,
• Support for the needy,
• Environmental and animal protection
• Raising funds for other tax-exempt entities or foreign entities to achieve the above purposes.

In particular we support local projects in Sri Lanka, since we have a partner organisation there, run by one of our members. We also help local people who are in need. In Germany, too, we try to carry out projects and joint operations for and with children, together with other organisations. Cultural exchange is a priority, learning from each other and working together in a global context, which brings to each party new experiences and impressions of other cultures.

Projects:
• Building and furnishing a women's Centre in Aluthgama, Sri Lanka (working together with the Education Centre EDC and the Nature Conservation Society (NCS), Sri Lanka). Essentially, the Centre will cover four areas: (further) education and training, community work, work to generate income and cultural activities.
• Education Centre EDC in Aluthgama, Sri Lanka

Activities:
• House building for families in difficult circumstances, in cooperation with the EDC and the Nature Volunteers, Sri Lanka
• Production of cotton shopping bags in the EDC's Women's Centre, in cooperation with the EDC Women's Centre and the Nature Volunteers, Sri Lanka
• Aid for a girl in Sri Lanka called Arindi, who is suffering from Leukemia.
• Charity concert for the victims of the catastrophe in Japan
• Distributing spectacles in Sri Lanka

Ilona Launhardt is the President of LOTUS (Living Without Tears or Worries) international.

On request we can offer other net participants advice, give a presentation, and provide up-to-date information and contacts in the field of our work.
