Qui sommes-nous

VOSARD (Voluntary Organization for Social Action and Rural Development) was established in 1998 with the aim of transforming the lives of the poor, marginalized and the under-privileged groups in the remote and hilly areas of Idukki District in the state of Kerala (India). The organization is functioning under the auspices of Carmelites of Mary Immaculate (CMI) Congregation. Our major work fields are building social institutions, community based rehabilitation, counselling services, agriculture/soil/food security, child & youth development, women empowerment, old age care, rural water supply and trainings or linkages.

Our Vision
A value-based society where the poor, women, persons with disabilities and other underprivileged sections in our society are empowered to bring about positive changes in their lives.

Our Mission
Enabling the target groups to be responsible for their own development through capacity building, active participation, accountability and self-governance.

Our Approach
We organize and empower poor and weaker sections of society for their sustainable development. By implementing all our projects through Self Help Groups, we promote Community Based Work at the grass-root level. Over 11,000 families have been organized into 625 Self Help Groups, 30 cluster units and three Apex Federations. This system is a model for easy coordination and management. Capacity building of the groups and their members is ensured trough need based awareness raising programs, trainings and also skill trainings, livelihood promotion and active participation in the program implementation process. Thus the rural development rate and the quality of live is improved.
Special projects and programs are implemented not only for socially, physically and mentally challenged people, but also for senior citizens, children, farmers, terminally ill and all other discriminated and isolated sections of society.
Besides we have been making initiatives to motivate farmers for mixed farming to promote food security. Through trainings and awareness classes about modern farming techniques we promote organic farming. In addition, micro credit systems are established among all Self Help Groups to enable rural enterprise for women, farmers, disabled people or other beneficiaries. VOSARD serves as an effective agency between the poor and the government departments to ensure that the underprivileged parts of society are aware of all their rights and facilities.
Furthermore, we are fighting alcoholism, drug abuse, human trafficking and child labour through awareness classes. Additionally, campaigns against HIV/AIDS and other sexually transmitted diseases were arranged by VOSARD.
