About us

Huvadhoo Aid (HAD) is a non-governmental, youth organization located in Huvadhoo Atoll. It was founded in 1987 as Hoadedhdhoo Zuvananunge Jamiyya and then renamed to Hoadedhdhoo Association for Development in 1997 following restructuring of the organization. It was again renamed as Huvadhoo Aid in 2010, after major changes in its focus areas.

HAD´s mission is to achieve rural socio-economic development of youth, women, disabled people and the community, as well as to increase active citizenship and civic participation, strengthen civil society organizations, promote responsible governance, and improve the image of the Maldives throughout the world. HAD also believes that good democratic, equitable governance and a prosperous society can be built only through achieving constructive civic participation.

HAD primarily works to improve the quality of life for Huvadhu atoll population, especially, youth, women, and the disabled. Thus, consultations with local government officials, the Island Development Committee, the Women´s Development Committee, civil society organizations, and the local community are ongoing to develop and jointly implement projects that address community needs. Additionally, HAD´s other target groups – with which they primarily work on capacity building – are other civil society organizations and local communities throughout the southernmost atolls of the Maldives.

The major focus areas of the organization are:
• Democratic governance,
• Environment and climate change,
• Youth and women empowerment,
