Sobre nosotros

Kalambi Community Outreach Project (KACOP is a not-for-profit community based organization that responds to the needs of orphans and other vulnerable children and their families in Wakiso sub county, Wakiso district, Uganda. Founded in 2011, KACOP was born out of the belief that by helping young people to develop livelihood skills, by giving them access to relevant vocational training, formal education and providing basic medical care, one enables them to take control of their own careers and lives, and to help their families break out of the cycle of poverty.

Vision
A society in Uganda where marginalized children achieve their inherent potentialities so they become ideal citizens.

Mission
To be the supporting institution of marginalized children to lead a dignified and productive life, through household socio economic security empowerment, child education and health promotion.

Projects
• Village Saving and Loans Association (VLSA): The major aim and spirit of VSLA is to assist in the creation and training of Village savings and loan associations using the participants own resources with the objective of supporting income generating activities. The training will cease when the participants take charge of the associations themselves. The major Goal of VSLA is independence and viability of the association through self-management in about a year.
• Income Generating Initiative Project: Select individuals from the poorest of the poor households with no income generating activity will be engaged in training, planning, selection and choosing the best income generating activity they will do. Individuals will be given start-up capital in the form of microfinance loan, a key component of breaking the cycle of poverty. Later on, they will enroll to the VLSA as KACOP exit strategy.
• Basic Healthcare Project: KACOP provided basic medical care to 30 orphans and vulnerable children in 2013, common illness treated included pneumonia, cough, flu and many other bacteria infections. 80 men and boys were circumcised in a bid to prevent the spread of HIV. All this was possible in collaboration with St. Francis healthcare center.
• Education Project: KACOP directly supported the individual educational needs of over 30 orphans and vulnerable children in primary and secondary education in Wakiso sub-county in the year 2013/2014. Working with our partner, "Mild may Uganda" we were able to provide scholastic materials such as exercise books, pens, pencils, uniforms, registration fees, schools fees and also some children were supported with food items like beans, cooking oil, maize, flour and millet floor.
• Handicraft Project: KACOP does not believe in hand-outs. Instead, we empower parents/guardians to help themselves. Guardians of the children from our vulnerable households are given training on how to start or develop an income generating activity. In 2014, a total of 12 parents/guardians, men and women were trained in handicraft making such as baskets, bangles, necklaces, earrings, bags and many others.
• Music, Dance and Drama Project: KACOP in its bid to improve youth employment in Wakiso sub-county, trained 30 youth both boys and girls in cultural music, dance and drama in 2012 and 2013. They formed cultural music, dance and drama group which is now hired locally and members earn some income to sustain their lives.
