Qui sommes-nous

Madihu Women´s Development Association (MaWoDA), established in 2003, is an NGO in Sierra Leone that aims to help transform the lives of poor and marginalized women, children and girl mothers in rural communities. The organisation works through issues related to social justice, sexual and reproductive health and economic empowerment.

"Madihu" is a local name meaning "determination". The name is looking at determined women coming together in a network pushing themselves ahead to achieve empowerment and prosperity.

This Association started working together as one big farming group in November 2003. In December 2006, the association registered with the Ministry of Social Welfare, Gender and Children’s Affairs as a Farmer Based Organization. In 2008, the association also registered with the Kenema District Council as a FBO. By 2008, it was clear to the members of the association that working together as a group was more beneficial than working as an individual´s based on the association´s earning since its formation.
