About us

Umoja wa wawezeshaji KIOO, abbreviated as KIOO is a voluntary non-political, non-religious, and non-profit sharing organization that was found in 2001 and officially registered in 2004. KIOO is a Tanzanian NGO that works for vulnerable children and on other social welfare issues. The organization also advocates for women’s rights (to own land and other property) and for better education for rural children. KIOO provides training on health issues, good governance and accountability.

KIOO envision in having a Tanzanian society where every individual is free from poverty, injustice and lives indignity.

KIOO mission is to advocate for women rights to own land and other property including decision making, better education and vocational skills for most vulnerable children, environmental, agriculture and food security, good governance and accountability, health system strengthening, child protection, care and support to most vulnerable children, taking action to water sanitation problems in the community.

Goal
KIOO Organization is self-sustaining, lobbying & advocating and positively impacting on social provision and poverty reduction

Objectives:
• To advocate and lobbying public about the rights and democracy for rural community and the special groups in the community like women, children and disabled.
• To scale up the REFLECT and STAR methodologies country wide by starting and regional wide.
• To network and support health education by embracing public health education, high mortality rate and nutrition through village meetings, seminars, workshops and direct or indirectly as means of fighting poverty and improvement of living condition of the people.
• To educate young people on the risks pertaining the HIV/AIDS and Drug Abuse, assist children from poor families with disabilities, this will be done by providing health support to these families.
• To support technical vocational training in the community for youths and vulnerable children this will help to overcome unemployment problems.
• To organize trainings, meetings, workshops and exposure visit in learning manner and providing community with good governance facilities in a good and helpful time.
• To raise awareness to the community members about crosscutting issues like HIV/AIDS and TB.
• To provide agricultural trainings to the community on how to utilize the present soil so that to produce more.

Activities.
Currently, KIOO is involved in a civic education programme against corruption and an HIV/AIDS prevention programme. The organization also runs an education and vocational training centre for vulnerable children from the region. To date, there are 56 children at the centre on various courses and life skills programmes, including computer training, tailoring, carpentry and secondary education.

Edward B Saimon is the Executive Director of Umoja wa wawezeshaji KIOO.
