Sobre nosotros

Women for Fair Development (WOFAD), established in 2005, is a non-profit NGO located in Blantyre, Malawi, working towards improving the socio-economic status of vulnerable women and youth through capacity building, economic empowerment activities and advocacy. While WOFAD began as an advocacy-based organization, promoting the rights and well-being of women living with HIV and AIDS, we have since expanded our reach to all vulnerable women and youth despite their HIV status.

Mission statement
WOFAD improves the socio-economic status of vulnerable women and youth through capacity building, economic empowerment activities, and advocacy.

Goals of WOFAD:
• Work towards ending discrimination based on gender and HIV status
• Empower women by strengthening their socioeconomic status and providing them with the knowledge and skills needed to live a sustainable and healthy life.

Activities:
• Protecting the sexual reproductive health rights of women living with HIV and AIDS: WOFAD is implementing a two year project called: We Have Rights Too! Protecting the Sexual Reproductive Health Rights of Women Living with HIV and AIDS in Malawi.
• Group Therapy Sessions: WOFAD members are mobilised on a weekly basis (every Tuesday), particularly HIV infected and affected women and youth, to engage in active dialogue in order to share and solve problems they face in their day to day lives.
• Permaculture, Nutrition and Herbal medicine: WOFAD provides knowledge and skills in using Permaculture techniques to develop a more sustainable way of living. It promotes the adoption of innovative information, technologies and methods to use land to productively harvest food, water and improve soil fertility while restoring landscapes facing environmental degradation.
• Income Generating Activities (IGAs): WOFAD has established a Piggery Pass-on Programme for women in order to empower them economically. Business management trainings to women have also been provided through in the Piggery pass-on programme.
• Importance of Village Savings (VSL): The VSL promote women and youths VSL Clubs also empowers them economic and self reliant. Through this VSL’s helps women and youth develop small scale business and they are self employed that answers on personal lives and families.
