Qui sommes-nous

The CWWPP began in 1994 with a group of people from the Netherlands who had worked with refugees. The mandate of the CWWPP is the empowerment of people to take control of their own lives, particularly at the local level. It has been working in Croatia since 1996.

The CWWPP's mission to Croatia is to heal physical and mental health problems that are a result of conflict. It hopes to prevent the transmission of war related traumas to younger generations and to aid in each person's ability to function normally within a civil society. The concept of "civil society" has is largely unknown in Croatia. The CWWPP wants to assist to give it meaning.

The CWWPP, together with Prof. Arpad Barath of the University of Pecs, Hungary has developed a strategy called "Complex Rehabilitation". This involves an epidemiological study of physical and mental health, the use of focus groups and action research to determine the needs, fears and aspirations of the people and to begin to activate them to talk about their own future and making and implementing a community plan with all groups in the society. Complex Rehabilitation, and the CWWPP'S work in general acts at the levels of the individual, family, the group, the community and the society.

The CWWPP is trying to find integral and sustainable solutions to the problems of the rehabilitation of post-conflict communities and the prevention of future conflict. Because of the areas of expertise, it concentrates on the aspects of health, including mental health and psychotraumatization, as well as physical health, non-violent conflict resolution and community development, including but not limited to democratization, which it defines as communication (interpersonal, group and with other bodies such as government), skills and knowledge of organization, critical thinking and self-initiative and skills and knowledge of governance.

Dr. Tauber has been the head of mission for southeast Europe since 1995 and is a member of the Board. He was born and raised in New York City. He graduated from Reed College in Portland, Oregon USA in Physics and obtained his medical qualification from the University of Groningen, The Netherlands.
