Sobre nosotros

Desierto Florido (translated: "Desert in Bloom") is a small non-profit organization founded in 2004 in Tübingen, Germany, which supports social projects in South America. A few drops of rain can turn parched ground into a ‘desert in bloom’. We see ourselves as such a drop that makes great changes.

Goals:
• Promotion of development cooperation
• Promotion of education
• Promotion of culture
• Promotion of food security and medical care

What we do:
• Financial support for social projects in Latin America (e.g. support for a soup kitchen and a cultural centre in Mendoza, Argentina; medical aid in Peru). The support of the projects is based on a very good cooperation and a constant exchange of information.
• Organization of events with a cultural and/or development policy focus on Latin America (example: Peruvian Culture Day).
• Lectures in schools with the aim of promoting social commitment and arousing interest in and awareness of development problems.
• Our association offers interested parties the opportunity to get involved socially, to learn from one another and thus to make a small contribution to international understanding.

Projects:
• Medical and psychosocial help / Las Semillas de Desierto Florido – Chilca, Peru: Under the guidance of a midwife, young mothers learn handicrafts and speak, among other things, about family planning and parenting. The mothers support each other and act as multipliers. If necessary, the health station is supported with material for the treatment of the destitute population.
• Inmensa Esperanza, Argentina: The many volunteer helpers try to ensure the food security of families living in precarious situations by providing lunch and food packages. Another focus is on child and adult education.
• La Casita Colectiva, Argentina: The Casita consists of several groups that want to improve regional, social, economic and ecological grievances in various ways. The groups organize round tables, plan demonstrations, produce documentaries and make books, games and calendars.
• La Libélula, Bolivia: La Libélula is a socio-educational care centre. The project offers a hostel for children who have been physically, mentally or sexually abused. There is also a lunch table that is financed by our donations. Some children get their only meal of the day here.
• Fundacaex – Fundación Casa de Apoyo en Excelencia, Colombia: Fundacaex aims to get the children off the streets, to help them with their homework and to provide them with enough food.
• Cusumbí, Ecuador: Cusumbí aims to protect the fragile ecosystems of the Galera - San Francisco Peninsula. With the involvement of the local population, new perspectives are created with sustainable and cultural projects.
