Qui sommes-nous
People’s Association for Rural Development (PARD) Madurai is a registered Voluntary Organisation as a recognized Association of the Civil Society steeped in a long tradition of operating in rural pockets of Madurai District, the second largest city in Tamilnadu, India since 1988. As a counter-cultural force, our Non Governmental Organisation has gone through decades of continuous development and expansion and is at an interesting and dynamic phase of its development. PARD is now faced with major decisions that will impact on our contemporary society for many years to come and had the roots in the agricultural background in rural pockets around Madurai. Yet, PARD continues to focus on rural economy targeting women groups and children in all its manifestations. This broad vision will be translated into a reality relevant to our rural and urban areas. Issues in our operational areas challenge us to look beyond imposed social, cultural, economic and normative constraints and seek solutions to realize a society free from poverty, illiteracy, gender inhibitions and communal violence.
Activities:
- Microfinance to the slum community;
- Organizing Women Self Help Groups in both rural and urban habitats;
- Formation of Peace Committees in target villages and imparting Human Rights Education;
- Running 25 Contact Centers in semi-urbs/slums around Madurai to eradicate Child Labor;
- Coaching/Tuition Centers for children dwelling in slums;
- Training programmes for rural and urban Women on Leadership, decision-making, self-reliance, income generation, entrepreneurship development and human rights;
- Juvenile home for girls;
- Forming ‘Green Villages’ to promote sustainable agricultural practices, natural pesticides, bio manures and indigenous knowledge and traditional practices;
- Integrating development policy into human rights framework;
- Rural Health programmes, with focus on slum dwellers;
- Campaigns on universalization of primary education and school enrolment in all target villages;
- Publication of books/pamphlets on sensitive issues affecting contemporary society and
- Networking with NGOs and Govt institutions to protect and promote Human Rights, Child Rights and Sustainable Agriculture.
For other net participants we can offer overnight facilities. Further we can offer an expert guidance through trained staff, give an expert opinion, deliver a lecture, procure expert information and establish new contacts in the field of our work.
