About us

The non-profit association Lebenslinien e.V., founded in 2005, helps children in the Cape region according to the South African "Ubuntu" philosophy. It expresses an African way of life that is characterized by brotherhood, solidarity and togetherness. An African Ubuntu philosopher defined it as follows: "I am because we are and we are because I am". The individual is a harmonious part of society and finds his security, strength and belonging here. Society is nothing without the individual.

With this world view and your donation we want to build a bridge between our prosperous world and a South Africa that is still working to deal with the consequences of apartheid. Our projects, which we carry out together with our South African project partners on the ground, are aimed at providing fast and sustainable help where it is urgently needed. However, the focus is always on "helping people to help themselves".

The founders of Association Lebenslinien e.V. Steffi and Thomas Curry are regulary on-site and personally take care of the projects.

Projects

• Magic Muffin: The "Magic Muffin" was originally developed by the South African Society for Medical Research as a contribution to solving the problem of mineral undersupply in underprivileged sections of the population. In 2017, we founded a new bakery in a primary school in Strand near Cape Town. From this bakery we now supply all distribution points. Already with a monthly contribution of 6,00 € you help to supply a schoolchild with a Magic Muffin for a whole month. In order to better reach and inform our international supporters, we have recently published our new English-language website https://magicmuffin.org

• Heaven on Earth: Already in the past we could successfully support the work of the local aid organisation Sir Lowry's Pass Empowerment Projects. For over two years now we have been supporting this great project "Heaven on Earth". In 2014 a small school was built on the grounds of Sir Lowry's Pass Primary School to accommodate many children in need of support. In the meantime, the Ministry of Education of the Western Cape has also become aware of the "Heaven on Earth" project and has pledged support and further funds. Children between the ages of 4 and 6 are to be made ready for school. With a specially developed curriculum, almost 2000 children have already been accepted into the program. The children are permanently tested, so that the successes are measurable and amazing!

• Imibala - Sponsor a Child: Imibala is a word from the Xhosa language and means "colourful".
The project objective of the Imibala Foundation is to make the sometimes grey present of many children more livable and to help them to a better, more "colourful" future, because many children have only one parent or are orphans. Some live in the typical corrugated iron huts, others live on the streets. A school uniform, school fees, travel expenses - and thus education - are unaffordable for them. With a donation of 80 € you finance one winter and one summer uniform as well as the school fees for one year. Your donation goes 100% to the schoolchild of your choice.

• Fast Eleven Football Club: First we wanted to equip the team properly. From the first donation in the amount of 3.000,0 0€ we bought jerseys for the U12 and U14 as well as for the first team. The U14 and the first team also got a tracksuit. For the training sessions, a total of 30 balls were procured, bodices for training games, hats for rounding and material for a small obstacle course. We would also like to support the young people outside of football, e.g. with an afternoon project with homework supervision and/or other care offers, in which the value of education is conveyed and the way there is made easier.

• Heart & Soul: We are wine merchants and importers of South African wines and love the country and its people. More than 14 years ago, we decided to combine work and help for African children. We came up with the idea of creating our own wine brand: Heart & Soul. Together with the South African winegrower Rikus Neethling, this idea was successfully implemented. From the proceeds of each sold bottle of "Heart & Soul" € 0.50 are donated to Lebenslinien e.V. to support the "Magic Muffin" project.

Stefanie and Thomas Curry are initiators of the Lebenslinien e.V. association.

On request, we can provide other net participants with advice on our areas of aid organisation and education, give a presentation or arrange for up-to-date specialist information and contacts. We would also be happy to show you how we efficiently and cost-effectively manage the necessary administrative tasks of our association, such as donor management or online communication via our websites. We also offer online by appointment.
