Über uns
Kumbatio Foundation Netherlands is a non-governmental organization with a transparent policy, founded on November 1st, 2010 and is located in ´s-Hertogenbosch, The Netherlands. It is committed to improving the quality of life for children in Thika, Kenya in order to improve their prospects. "Kumbatio" is Swahili for "embrace".
Vision:
To provide children of Thika, Kenya with a better future by offering them better shelter, healthy food, medical attention and decent education.
Mission:
The foundation wants to improve the quality of life of children in Thika, Kenya.
Goal:
• to financially support and provide advice to the children´s home in Thika, Kenya
• to support, financially or in any other way, other projects which contribute to the development of the lives of children in Kenya, particularly in Thika
• to develop other activities that will help to improve and progress the mission.
The foundation would like to accomplish this goal by involving companies, organizations and individuals and to obtain financial aid through sponsoring, grants and other financial contributions.
The Kumbatio Foundation Netherlands supports projects in the city of Thika, Kenya to improve the quality of life of children who don’t have any parents or because they have been abused or neglected by their parents.
Projects:
1. Kiota Children´s Home:
At the moment we are operating a children´s home which can provide accommodation for up to 20 children. After running another project for 2 years, we started this children's home named "Kiota". It is located close to Thika in Kenya and we started the home on the 1st of July 2012. Kumbatio has complete control and the staff members are locals from Kenya. A local manager supervises Kiota children´s home and the children are looked after by 3 housemothers and a housefather. Since May 2015 a social worker has also been added to the staff and a counsellor is helping the children to process their traumatic background.
Apart from the accommodation for the children we have a separate bedroom for two to three volunteers. The house also has three bathrooms with flushable toilets and hot showers.
2. Life Skills:
The children need to be taught how to cope with life when they leave Kiota. They are taught how to set boundaries for themselves, what to value and work on their self-esteem. This project is done with our social worker
3. Family Planning and Empowerment
In order to help breaking the circle of poverty, we work with the families of the children. They are taught how to generate their own income with small micro-loans and how to build healthy relationships. This means that the men need to learn how to be respectful and responsible and the women need to have more self worth and work on their independency.
4. The Kiota Dream
We are in need for more space for the children and the projects we’re working on to be able to maximize our approach towards our vision. For that we need to buy a piece of land of around 1,5 hectares/3 acres to start building some houses for the children, a separate manager’s house and a guesthouse for volunteers.
• Sponsorship Programs: Sponsor a child; Sponsor Kiota as a company; Sponsor an asset like water, electricity, schoolbooks, firewood, food, school fees; Set up a sponsoractivity.
• Voluntary work: In our children´s home volunteers can spend a happy, educational and useful time by undertaking some voluntary work with a small organization such as ours.
