The Vitiligo Society of Kenya (VISOKE) is a not for profit, patient driven registered under the Non- Govermental Organisation and Coordination Act.
The initiation of the Vitiligo Society of Kenya in 2015 was propelled by a lack of understanding of Vitiligo, and the need to support people living with Vitiligo in Kenya, where many myths and assumptions.
Vitiligo is an autoimmune disorder that occurs when the pigment cells that produce colour, melanocytes are destroyed. As a result, white patches appear on the skin in different parts of the body, and the hair. Vitiligo is a skin condition that affects all races, sexes and ages. It is believed that Vitiligo affects about 2% of the world’s population

Our Vision is to restore normalcy and improve the quality of life of persons living with Vitiligo, and to promote positive perception of Vitiligo in Kenya.

Our Mission
To provide public awareness enlightening the public through, education, entertainment, dedicated work and counseling, and to empower persons living with Viitiligo to live exceptionally, promoting and, supporting and encouraging research to establish the causes and ultimate cure for Vitiligo.

VISOKE’s main objective is to raise awareness concerning Vitiligo in Kenya and to address the stigma associated with Vitiligo by educating the public and supporting persons with Vitiligo.
VISOKE aims to empower persons living with Vitiligo to live exceptionally. It addresses the issues of stigmatization and endeavours to encourage and promote increased scientific, clinical and alternative research on the causes and ultimate cure for Vitiligo.
VISOKE aims to develop resource centres for information dissemination and to enlarge the concern for those living with Vitiligo within the medical community, and policy institutions.

Objectives:
• To create public awareness and concern for Vitiligo patients through entertainment, education, information and education materials, documentaries, drama, concerts, seminars and workshops.
• To enlighten and enthuse those living and affected by Vitiligo to live positively as the search for ultimate cause and cure goes on.
• To enlarge the concern for those living with Vitiligo condition within the medical community. The Ministry of Health, medical practitioners and pharmacists.
• To set up a Vitiligo Resource Centre for information dissemination, to offer help and support for these affected and those living with Vitiligo in Kenya.
• To encourage, promote and fund increased scientific, clinical and alternative research on the causes and ultimate cure of Vitiligo.

James Laban is the Founder and Executive Secretary of the Vitiligo Society of Kenya (VISOKE).
