Über uns
The Family Empowerment and Relief Organization (FERO) is a local non-profit, non-governmental and non-sectarian organization; instituted, staffed, and managed by a faculty of Somali professionals. The NGO was officially launched in 1992 by a group of Somali Women concerned with the country´s civil strife and the increasing inability of Somalis to respond to the vexing humanitarian tragedy gripping the country.
FERO has its headquarters located at Mogadishu, Somalia, with a liaison office in Nairobi, Kenya. In addition, FERO maintains regional offices and program operations in the following regions, covering mainly central and southern Somalia.

To be the pioneer in empowering the community particularly women and girls towards the achievement of a just society.
Mission
FERO aspires to transform conflict, reach lasting reconciliation and peace among all Somalis, foster goodwill among all people, build economic capacity of the people at the family level as the foundation of society as well as promote good health.
Areas of operation:
• Emergency humanitarian relief.
• Empowerment & education of women and girls for income generation and self-reliance
• Conflict transformation and peace building (Peace and Governance)
• Promotion of education, good health and clean living environments

Objectives:
• Promote women and girls capacity in the areas of health, educational and entrepreneurship by erecting facilities and providing relevant training
• Establishment schools and training centers for Orphan children
• Provide humanitarian relief and sustainable development support to communities experiencing natural and/or man-made disasters and adversity in the programme regions
• Train and equip women and internally displaced persons with the pre-requisite skills to transform conflict and build peace among individuals and communities
• Employ both proactive and reactive methodologies and tools in combating HIV/AIDS pandemic and in Somalia
• Undertake field research, formulate and advocate for policy alternatives, and disseminate timely and relevant information to government and NGOs engaged in policy making – at local, national and international levels – aimed at the containment and cessation of the scope and scale of conflict and its resolution
• Sensitize Somali stakeholders on the eradication of negative traditional practices including but not limited to Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) across the country by setting piloted precedents
• Foster a culture of mutual trust and peaceful co-existence among different Somali clans and communities through the creation of all-inclusive/participatory strategies that allow for free intermingling and integration
