Mexico-North Research Network

The Mexico-North Research Network is an international consortium of universities, museums, research institutes, and cultural centers that share an interest in Mexico and the United States and a desire to collaborate on projects focused on these two countries and the relationships between them. The non-profit corporation Mexico-North was founded in 1998.

Our mission is to promote a more profound understanding of Mexico and the United States by fostering international exchange and collaboration among scholars, students, institutions, and communities within the framework of innovative programs in research, education, and outreach.

Objectives
• To serve as a catalyst in the development of innovative projects in research, education, and outreach based on collaboration among scholars, students, and other residents of Mexico and the United States.
• To facilitate the realization of these projects by providing the infrastructural and financial support required to undertake them.
• To enhance a broad understanding of Mexico and the United States through effective programs in public education.
• To create the frameworks within which experimental approaches to research, education, and outreach can be designed, tested, and implemented.

Programs
Program activities include organizing international, multi-disciplinary research projects, symposia, and conferences; sponsoring public lectures, concerts, and exhibits; serving as a clearinghouse for information on themes relevant to Mexico-North´s priority programming areas; providing logistical support for the research projects of graduate students and professional scholars; and facilitating the participation of researchers, students, and the members of local communities in these activities through fellowships, internships and travel grants.
• U.S. –Mexican Transnationalism Program: The goal is to promote innovative research and scholarly exchange focused on the diverse linkages that connect Mexico and the United States.
• Transnationalism Fellowship Program: Since 2002, almost a hundred scholars divided between Mexicans and U.S. citizens, have been appointed as Mexico-North´s Transnationalism Fellows, the Mexican scholars conducting their research at U.S. institutions that are members of the Mexico-North Research Network and the U.S. scholars at Mexican members of Mexico-North. At the end of their fellowship period the Fellows present the results of their project at our Annual Transnationalism Forum.

• Literature and Arts Project
• Indigenous Agriculture in Western North America: This project explores this relationship between humans and their natural environment by examining the subsistence strategies of the Indigenous residents of northern Mexico and the southwestern United States.

Greta de León is the Executive Director of the Mexico-North Research Network.
