Über uns
La Comunidad Que Construimos (LCQC) is an official Peruvian NGO that helps at-risk kids have access to the education they deserve & develop their self-esteem through workshops in English, art, sports and cultural exchange in a local school in Alto Trujillo, Peru. Main barriers towards high-quality education are poor infrastructure, inadequate learning materials, out-dated curricula, and a lack of well-trained teachers.
LCQC was founded in 2013 because too many children who have very low self-esteem have an increased chance of becoming involved in drugs and crime, but also of suffering from anxiety and depression.
Our mission is to help children in Peru fulfil their individual potentialities and maximize their social and emotional growth from early childhood – through our English teaching and after-school programs. We provide poor local state schools with volunteer English teachers, so schoolkids receive the education they deserve, in line with the national curriculum. Their self-esteem and personal development are our top priorities.
Our vision is to help Peruvian kids and their family develop their social and emotional skills and foster their everyday well-being and social success - so they can live in harmony with themselves and with others, in order to break the cycle of violence and poverty.
Our local social impact
We work with the community of Alto Trujillo in one of their local primary schools. The teachers are unable to comply with the national curriculum for English – which is a compulsory subject – because they are not trained to teach a foreign language. Our volunteers provide invaluable support to the teaching team by giving English classes to 350 kids each week.
The children also greatly benefit from our efforts to advocate self-esteem after school, through our cultural exchange program. Our goal is to guide kids through their personal and interpersonal development, by promoting healthy emotional and social interactions, respect and confidence for the future.
Our programs:
• English Teaching Program: Our volunteers teach English to 12 classes of children aged 6-12 each week. Our teaching methods are inclusive and interactive: children learn how to achieve their goals, work with others and manage their emotions – through play and mutual trust. Volunteers prepare lesson plans according to the requirements of the national curriculum: speak, write and read English as a foreign language. We also incorporate Sports and Art into our lessons to help the kids develop their social and creative skills. All classes take place in the presence of a local primary teacher.
• After School Program: Our After-School Program takes place every day after class. It is free, open to all, and most importantly it provides a safe & structured environment to the schoolchildren. Our "Different but Equal" motto promotes cultural diversity, acceptance and respect for one another's differences. Our volunteers create a range of art, craft & sport activities around a new country each week. This cultural exchange program allows children to broaden their vision of the world, to form and express opinions creatively, and to value their own culture by reflecting a positive self-image.
• Art Projects In The School Environment: Our Art Projects turn the school buildings into a vibrant praise of Peruvian culture. We always enlist the help of the children. Their input is crucial to our collaborative projects: from the original idea to the final touches. Our collaborative art promotes a positive attitude towards one another and the subject matter itself – for example, the school environment or Peruvian culture. This cooperative art work has positive effects on students' relationships, motivation and their willingness to respect their surroundings.
