Über uns
VOICE GHANA is a Disability Rights and Advocacy Organization based in Ho. The organization was set up in July 2002 as an NGO managed for and by people with disabilities. The organization promotes access to quality education for children with disabilities and work as a capacity building organization for all disability Self-help Groups and Disabled People’s Organisations at the grassroots level in Ghana. Our special focus is on people with disabilities who have no or limited access to education, perhaps because of their gender, or they live in remote areas or are extremely poor.
Our mission is "to improve the lives of people with disabilities, by supporting them to become self-reliant, united in Cross Disability Self Help Groups (SHGs) and advocates for their own Human Rights and Gender Equality”. As a rights-based organisation, we promote inclusion for all and champions gender equality as thematic focus.
VOICE Ghana engages and lobbies local government officials, Traditional Authorities and Private Enterprises to be accountable for their statutory responsibilities and duties to persons with disabilities within the Persons with Disability Act, 2006 and Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD). We also build collective voice for persons with disabilities for greater representation and participation in self-advocacy in holding Traditional Authorities and local government officials accountable for what their rights are. We have also been forming and training grassroots cross disability Self-help Groups, Advocating on behalf of people with disabilities and also providing self advocacy and assertiveness skills training so that people with disabilities can advocate for themselves.
VOICE GHANA has a governing Board that formulates policies and provides strategic direction and exercise oversight responsibility for the implementation of policies. The management body has responsibility for the operational implementation of policies and programmes.
Programs & Activities:
VOICE GHANA’s activities are wide ranging and incorporate Gender Equality, Human Rights Education/Empowerment, Advocacy and Lobbying, Formation and Training of Grassroots Disability Self Help Groups and HIV/AIDS Education and Awareness.
The organisation also works in close collaboration with Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies and their decentralized departments as well as other Civil Society Oganisations to advance the Persons with Disability Act, 2006 and the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD).
