Über uns
African Orphanage is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing Christ-centered services to HIV/AIDS orphans and poor rural communities in Kenya. We are Christian non-profit organization, always looking for volunteers to help with our work. We offer exciting short-term and long-term volunteer opportunities in Kenya.
African Orphanage´s core role is to manage an orphanage, located in the valley of Ithanga Hills, that houses neediest orphans in the society, supporting their education by providing a smooth conducive environment at home and school, providing them with food, school uniforms, clothing and medical care.
Mission
African Orphanage is dedicated to providing residential Christian care to children who are orphaned, neglected, abused, underprivileged and vulnerable; while ensuring their physical, emotional, social and spiritual development is nurtured by consistent encouragement instilling within each individual a model of love, safety, purpose, productivity, service to others and trust in God. African Orphanage is committed to breaking the cycle of poverty, while meeting the emotional, medical, educational and social needs of the child.
Projects:
• Children´s Education: We support their education by providing schooling support, continuously discussing their progress with teachers. We also find responsible guardians to take them in while the attend school. Also, African orphanage has started a Kindergarten which we hope will grow to a full primary school in the future.
• Orphanage Program: African Orphanage is dedicated to providing residential Christian care to children who are orphaned, neglected, abused, underprivileged and vulnerable; while ensuring their physical, emotional, social and spiritual development is nurtured by consistent encouragement instilling within each individual a model of love, safety, purpose, productivity, service to others and trust in God.
• Orphan Sponsorship Program (OSP): The purpose and objective of the OSP is to provide basic physical, social and spiritual care to those children who have lost their parents.
• Sustainable Agriculture Program: Recognizing the long-term physical, emotional, social and economic effects of malnutrition, hunger and poverty, African Orphanage places great emphasis on teaching children simple farming - growing organic fruits and vegetables namely kales, tomatoes, maize, beans, cabbage, onions, carrots, pumpkins, watermelons, mangoes and passion fruits. The children learn sustainable techniques and help seasonal work such as: planting, pruning, weeding, fencing, harvesting, building, caring for cows, sheep, goats and dogs. The farm animals provide children with protein in form of meat, eggs and milk.
For other net participants we can offer overnight facilities. Also we can offer an expert guidance through trained staff, give an expert opinion, procure expert information and establish new contacts in the field of our work.
