Nigeria Reads Initiative is a non-profit organization dedicated to mobilizing the latent educational opportunities in Nigeria’s outlying communities through the establishment of literacy centers and programming. Our journey began with the establishment of a Tasha Community Library through our Friends of the Library project, in which we rallied the support of Community-Based Organizations, Private-Public partnerships, and other stakeholders to establish a literacy project and programming.

Nigeria Reads is a non-profit organization with a mission to promote literacy and mobilize the latent educational opportunities across Nigeria.

Our goal is to facilitate the natural spread of literacy initiatives all over Nigeria and instill in young people a love of learning that will serve them well throughout their lives.

We focus on providing access to books and educational resources to children and young adults mostly in underserved communities. Through partnerships with schools, libraries, and other organizations, Nigeria Reads aims to improve literacy rates and empower individuals to reach their full potential.

What we do
• Access to digital content: To provide access to technology as a learning aid
• Space and inclusive atmosphere: We collaboratively provide a safe study space and learning place for everyone
• Knowledge sharing and employment creation:
We engage and train our host community representative(s) to operate the library and literacy centers
We engage mentors and volunteers who we train to implement our programs
We use the library as a connection to learning and developing life skills to being successful
Community Reaching Community (CRC) project: we are leader in sharing, opening up literacy programs that impacts communities, society and nations.

Programs:
• Glow Clubs: Global G.L.O.W., a 501 (c) non-profit organization based in California, is in partnership with Nigeria Reads Initiative to run Global G.L.O.W. programs in Nigeria. The program emphasizes mentorship and the arts in order to instill confidence in girls on the verge of success. It also employs creative expression in conjunction with a strong mentor relationship to help girls develop self-esteem and resilience. The program support girls in becoming leaders in their communities.
• CoolkidsCode: At our coolkidsCode project, children learn the basic concepts of Computer Science with drag-and-drop programming. This includes a game-like, self-directed tutorial starring video lectures by Bill Gates, Mark Zuckerberg, Angry Birds, and Plants vs. Zombies. They learn repeat loops, conditionals, and basic algorithms. n principle we work through the basics on how computer programs are written and interpreted, and further compliment that knowledge with a basic programming of board games such as Ludo, snake and ladder and using Lego kits. Kids can code their own interactive games, stories, animations, and more. In the activities we give them, they learn to create an interactive game that they share with friends and family.
• library Projects: Nigeria Reads Initiative is a non-profit organization dedicated to mobilizing the latent educational opportunities in Nigeria’s outlying communities through the establishment of literacy centers and programming. • Butterfly Project: The butterfly project is an empowerment project that addresses poverty and its attendant consequences on girls. It’s initiative of 5 young ladies whom we have mentored and empowered. 25 young girls were given the opportunity to intern for three months with seasoned experts in their chosen fields. Upon completion of the internship, the girls organise an exhibition where they present their products and showcased their skills (culinary, photography, show making, poetry, and hairdressing amongst others).

For other net participants we can offer an expert guidance through trained staff, give an expert opinion, procure expert information and establish new contacts in the field of our work.
