Über uns

The Kootu-K-Kural Theater Movement is a fascinating cultural phenomenon! Kootu-K-Kural is a traditional Tamil theater form that originated in Tamil Nadu. It is a unique blend of music, dance, and drama that tells stories from mythology, folklore, and everyday life.
The Kootukural Theatre Movement, founded in 1992 by Advocate & Notary Mr. S. Perumal, is a pioneering initiative that uses the power of theater to raise awareness about social issues affecting women and children. Through performances, songs, street theater dramas, and cultural activities, the movement empowers women and children to speak out against injustice and demand their rights.
Since its inception, the Kootukural Theatre Movement has been a vital platform for marginalized voices, providing a safe space for expression and mobilization. Today, the team members are actively involved in field activities as part of the ADECOM Network, further expanding their reach and impact.
The movement's dedication to social change through art has made a significant difference in the lives of countless individuals, inspiring a new generation of leaders and change-makers."

Our Vision

Our Mission: Igniting Ideas, Empowering Action
Empowering Voices Through Art: Kootu-k-kural, meaning "Collective Voice," champions the rights of oppressed communities in South India. We utilize the power of traditional performance art – music, drama, and storytelling – to ignite social change. Our primary objective is to engage grassroots communities by provoking critical thinking and exploring alternative solutions to pressing social issues. Through compelling artistic expression, Kootu-k-kural's professional team challenges audiences to consider their role in advancing empowerment of women and children.

Our Focus
● Rural Communities and Marginalized Voices: Our theatrical performances tackle pressing issues faced by vulnerable communities and women in rural villages. We personalize each play to resonate with the specific challenges of the target audience, placing these issues at the forefront of community discourse.
● Street Theatre for Accessibility and Awareness: Through captivating street shows, Kootu-k-kural brings education and critical thinking directly to rural areas. We challenge the internalization of socio-economic oppression and exploitation, empowering communities to envision a just future.
● Investing in the Future - Alternative Education for Children: Kootu-k-kural's vision extends beyond immediate change. We collaborate with schools in both urban and rural areas to create alternative educational settings for children. By empowering the next generation through education, we cultivate the potential for long-lasting positive change.
