Über uns
African Child at Work (ACAW) is a youth-led, community-centered organization based in South Africa, dedicated to empowering young people through service, discipline, and social impact. We were initially registered in the year 2020.
African Child at Work's mission is to empower and uplift disadvantaged children, particularly young girls, by providing them with educational opportunities and promoting their well-being.
Focus areas:
• No Poverty - African Child at Work aims to address poverty in communities by providing resources and support to disadvantaged children and families. We work to improve access to education, healthcare, and basic necessities for those in need.
• Zero Hunger - The organization promotes food security and agricultural development in communities by providing training and resources for sustainable farming practices. We also implement feeding programs to ensure children have access to nutritious meals.
• Good Health and Well-being - African Child at Work focuses on improving healthcare access and quality in underserved communities. We provide medical resources and health education to improve the overall well-being of children and families.
• Quality Education - We aim to improve access to quality education by providing scholarships and offering programs to children who may not have had the opportunity otherwise.
• Gender Equality - African Child at Work promotes gender equality by advocating for girls' education and empowering women in communities. They work to eliminate gender-based discrimination and provide equal opportunities for all.
• Decent Work and Economic Growth - African Child at Work aims to create economic opportunities and promote sustainable livelihoods in communities. We provide vocational training and support entrepreneurship initiatives to empower individuals and foster economic growth.
Through these programs, African Child at Work provides practical skills training, fosters volunteerism, and encourages a culture of responsibility among African youth. The organization serves as a platform for young leaders to engage meaningfully with their communities, while addressing everyday challenges with compassion and creativity.
By combining service with mentorship, African Child at Work is shaping a generation that values showing up—on time, well-groomed, and ready to contribute. It is more than a movement; it is a growing network of change-makers committed to uplifting others and redefining what it means to lead.
Activities:
• We have run a successful soup kitchen for the past 5 years for over 150 students every Tuesday & Thursday and the learners really appreciate the food that we provide for them
• In partnership with NACOSA we work to empower young girls through the No Means No program. After receiving training through this program, ACAW has taken initiative in ensuring continuous monitoring and evaluation of the girls' implementation of what they have learned.
• Comforts campaign is committed to the empowerment of schoolgirls, raising awareness about women's health and giving these girls the opportunity to continue their education without the burden of hygiene risks, discomfort, embarrassment or the loss of dignity. We aim to provide sanitary pads to girls in less fortunate communities 2wice a month to reach over 1000 girls
• Founded on the belief that every child deserves dignity and opportunity, the organization runs hands-on initiatives such as free hair grooming and clothing giveaways to promote punctuality, self-respect, and community pride.
