Über uns
Hakizetu Tanzania, previously known as Hakizetu Young Women and Girls´ Rights Organization, is a non-governmental organization which was established in the year 2010 and legal registered in Tanzania in 2011. Hakizetu is a Swahili word, which literally means ‘Our rights’ in English
Our Vision
A just society where women’s human rights and the voice of the voiceless young women and Adolescents are heard supported and advocated for at local, national and international arenas.
Our Mission
To create opportunities for women/girls and community members to come together, talk, organize and work towards preventing VAWG so that women/girls are able to enjoy their rights as predetermined in the Constitution of The United Republic of Tanzania, African Charter and various human rights conventions and to facilitate the creation of health and legal environments within community that guarantee women and girls' rights to live in violence free communities through promoting the access of safe sexual reproductive health services/information.
Our Goal
Hakizetu´s overall goal is to contribute to the personal safety, health and social protection of young women and girls towards the prevention of early pregnancies and marriages in Tanzania.
Our Purpose
To promote and strengthen the voices of the young women and girls’ voices so as to enable them to access their universal human rights for enhanced equity, justice and safety resulting into the long-term prevention of early marriages and pregnancies through strategic capacity building, community mobilization, policy advocacy and paralegal programs
Our Commitments
We are committed to conduct programs that aim to build capacities and raise awareness of community members and other stakeholders including policy makers to be better organized, strengthened and able to take actions to prevent, mitigate violence against women (VAW), early pregnancy and marriage. By provision of literacy sessions based on human rights; gender based violence, young women´s leadership skills, as well as various youth development programs to deepen self esteem and confidence among youth.
Activities:
• Vocation Skills Training: We empower economically, survivors of child marriage and teenage pregnancy through One year vocation training regarding on beneficiaries talents, We have been providing garment designing and making skills, decoration, entrepreneurship training, marketing skills, business management, petty trade starting capital and 3 years mentorship for poverty reduction. Our beneficiaries have been pressed on well established institutions for the training and designing.
• Table Banking: Table-banking is a group funding strategy where youth group meet once every week, place their savings, loan repayments and other contributions on the table then borrow immediately either as long term or short term loans. The Youth use the money borrowed as capital for their livelihood projects, including petty business.
• Talent Promotion and search: This program identifies and assists individuals from vulnerable groups especially survivors of drug abuse and youth from disadvantaged backgrounds who have the potential to succeed in higher education, music, acting, arts and designing.

Gervas Evodius is a feminist, gender activist Co-founder and Senior Program Officer of the Hakizetu Young Women and Girls’ Rights Organization (Hakizetu Tanzania. He is also founder of the Economic Empowerment Program on poverty-reduction strategies for survivors of teenage motherhood and child marriage. Since its establishment in 2012, the program has supported more than 384 young women and girls through mentorship and with vocational training, entrepreneurship and market research skills. Evodius is a East Africa Acumen Fellow-2016 cohort, holds a B.A. in Philosophy from the University of Dodoma, Tanzania and has been listed among the Top 10 African Youth Philanthropists in 2015 by African Youth Philanthropy Network.
