Über uns

In 2000, the idea of Girl Child Art Foundation (GCAF) was fully crystallized and birthed. Since then, GCAF has been welcomed by hundreds of Nigerian homes and helped numerous girls to find their voice, a listening ear and freedom to express themselves without condemnation or judgment. Creating access to Skills Development Centers, Youth-focused learning environments and Afterschool Development Programmes are some of the channels we can use to make a difference and break down barriers.

GCAF´s mission is to provide a supportive environment that educates and inspires underserved girls in Africa using Arts.

Our vision is to see African girls discover their potential, dream, achieve a fulfilling future and defeating all gender based barriers.

GCAF utilizes all forms of art as a tool for promoting social rights and equipping girls with skills to be independent. Our specialties lie in Life Skill Development, creating Livelihood opportunities for young people, dignifying young women by encouraging creativity, innovation, and entrepreneurship through Arts.

Programs:
• Education: Currently we have established 63 school clubs across Nigeria. GCAF has also started a scholarship program for underserved girls in secondary schools to help girls pay for tuition. Some of the advocacy and learning programs are: Free Trainings and developmental courses; School outreach programs; Training for peer educators; Free Career counseling; Leadership training for young women using arts; Radio media programs to mark world youths day, Day of the girl, and other enlightenment campaigns; Creative writing classes; GCAF free digital resource center
• Livelihoods: GCAF through her livelihood programs educates and provides basic professional skills by enhancing their talent through all forms of Art literary and visual arts. Some of the advocacy and learning programs are: GCAF studios – visual arts, performing arts, music e.g. theatre, printmaking, textile design, photography; Holiday programs – GCAF summer programs run in several states of Nigeria contact us for details- link our contact form here; Art exhibitions – We run art shows two times a years; Product fairs – GCAF participates in art fairs showcasing finished products from our girls; ICT trainings – GCAF trains underserved girls in basic computer skills and also creates multiple opportunities.
• Health and Wellness: Our goal is to promote the heath and reproductive rights and well being of young women and Girls including HIV/AIDS advocacy programs, female genital mutilation, and comprehensive sexuality education using all forms of Art as a medium for transferring information. Some of the advocacy and learning programs are: HIV media campaigns; Cartoon for life; Peace tiles art workshops on health; Free hygiene products for girls; Wellness workshops/activities.
• Human Rights: Our Goal is to advocate for the rights of young women and girls, while advocating for the sexual reproductive rights and well being of the Girl-Child, child marriage, and violence against girls. Some of the advocacy and learning programs are: Dance festivals; Dance dramas on child trafficking; Workshops, trainings, and conferences; Sexual violence and coercion; Awareness campaigns on child marriage; Counseling and Referrals; Psychosocial support.
• Leadership & Entrepreneurship: Our Girl leadership and entrepreneurship clubs´ gives girls in secondary schools opportunities to contribute actively to global issues, develop their leadership skills, build confidence and inspires girl-led enterprises. Some of the advocacy and learning programs are: School visits by educators, Volunteers; Club formation and meetings; Product development, writing business and marketing plans; Creative activities; Mentorship activities; Excursions.

Ada Onyejike Ananaba is the Executive Director of the Girl Child Art Foundation (GCAF).
