Über uns
TAHZINGDONG, registered in 2001, is a non-profit, non-government voluntary research organization working on environment and socio-economic development in the Chittagong Hill Tracts of Bangladesh.
TAHZINGDONG also engaged to facilitate the livelihood development activities among the forest dependent communities aiming at better forest conservation, protection and restoration. The organization encourages local people for sustainable use of tropical forest.
Vision:
TAHZINGDONG envisions a society where all people may enjoy and live in peace and harmony, and free from poverty and injustice that everyone get involved in effective and sustainable socio-economic development process.
The mission of TAHZINGDONG is to empower the most disadvantage and vulnerable people in the Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT´s) of Bangladesh in order to bring them towards alternative development process for sustainable development.
We work on:
• Biodiversity Conservation in Chittagong Hill Tracts: The organization is involved to provide water supply technology which is locally called gravity flow system (GFS) for the forest dependent communities creating a permanent small dam inside the community forest where stream water easily originates. The organization encourages and promotes to conserve the threatened and endangered species both flora and fauna with the collaboration of local community people, traditional leader, local government institution, forest dependent community based organization (CBO) and local administration through awareness, policy advocacy, conservation initiatives and livelihood development activities.
• Climate Change: Mitigate climate change through community based conservation and forestation for minimizing carbon emission from forest ecosystem, Improve Cooking stove (ICS) technology supports to local poor forest dependent communities to minimize fuel wood Consumption where gas is not available, fuel wood (rain tree) plantation for local communities to minimize dependency on forest resources, Bamboo and native trees plantation to protect soil erosion of Stream, river and others water bodies, Solar panel technology support in remote area to minimize power consumption etc. Moreover, in order to create general awareness among general stakeholders and allow everyone in a community to response and face the climate change challenges, TAHZINGDONG involves in advocacy works, campaign and others networking activities and disseminates message through posters, leaflets, publication and billboards.
• Environment and Forest: THAZINGDONG has been implementing Village Common Forest (VCF) projects (Mouza Forest / Community Conserved Area) in Chittagong Hill Tracts aiming at protection, restoration, biodiversity conservation, and improving knowledge on natural resource management of traditional community managed forest. The organization emphasizes livelihood development initiatives to the local community people of the surrounding ecosystem for improving vegetative status and better management of the Village Common Forest (VCF) or Mouza forest. TAHZINGDONG took some primary survey initiatives to identify existing VCF´s in Bandarban Hill District. Later on, TAHZINGDONG was involved with some VCF´s dependent communities to promote conservation initiatives.
• Livelihood Development: The organization provides support for farmers´ capacity building, skill development training, marketing linkage development, entrepreneurship training, technological resource and knowledge on crop agriculture, fisheries and livestock. The organization also has experienced to work with vulnerable workers of the informal sector who are involved in handicrafts and weaving profession.
• Water and Sanitation: TAHZINGDONG has been implementing water and sanitation programs through supporting hardware and software services aiming at improving public health status in Bandarban Hill District of Bangladesh. The overall objective of water and sanitation (WATSAN) program of TAHZINGDONG is to reduce water and excreta born diseases in the community.
Ching Shing Prue is the Executive Director of TAHZINGDONG.
