Über uns
The Pakistan Press Club (PPC) is an independent, non-profit organization dedicated to free press, speech and spirit for all people.
PPC was founded as Pakistan Star Writers Panel in 1996 by a group of young journalists of Pakistan. We promote press freedom worldwide by defending the right of journalists to report the news without fear of reprisal.
A group of young correspondents created PPC in response to the often-brutal treatment of their colleagues by police, authoritarian governments, and other enemies of independent journalism.
PPC has a full-time staff member at its Peshawer Chapter in Pakistan, including area specialists for each major city of Pakistan. PPC has international representatives in Australia, Canada, Japan, U.S.A, U.K. and France. A six-member board of prominent North american journalists directs PPC activities.
PPC is funded solely by contributions from individuals, corporations, and foundations. By publicly revealing abuses against the press and by acting on behalf of imprisoned and threatened journalists, PPC effectively warns journalists and news organizations when attacks on press freedom are occurring.
PPC organizes vigorous protests at all levels ranging from local governments to the United Nations and, when necessary, works behind the scenes through other diplomatic channels to effect change. PPC also publishes articles and news releases, special reports, alerts, and the most comprehensive survey of attacks against the press worldwide.
PPC members are monitoring the press in Asia, North America, Africa and Central Asia, and the Middle East. They track developments through their own independent research, fact-finding missions, and firsthand contacts in the field, including reports from other journalists. PPC shares information on breaking cases with other press freedom organizations worldwide through the International Freedom of Expression Exchange.
In an emergency. Using local and foreign contacts, PPC can intervene whenever journalists are in trouble.
PPC is also prepared to notify news organizations, government officials, and human rights organizations immediately of press freedom violations.
When traveling on assignment. PPC can advise journalists covering dangerous assignments.
When covering the news. Attacks against the press are news, and they often serve as the first signal of a crackdown on all freedoms.
For other net participants we can offer overnight possibilities. Further we can offer an expert guidance through trained staff, give an expert opinion, procure expert information, deliver a lecture and establish new contacts in the field of our work.
