The Saraswoti Kunj Boarding School was started in 1951 as a project in Panauti, a small village 32 km east of Kathmandu, with the aim of providing quality education to needy students who can not otherwise afford to study in private schools.

Panauti is an ancient village with a rich history and cultural background. It lies in the central part of mid eastern Nepal. The economy of Panauti depends heavily on agriculture - more than 80 % of its 30 thousand people are directly dependent on agriculture. Most of these people have barely enough land to feed their families so they can only pay for their basic needs. One of the most serious effects of this is their inability to send their children to good schools. They don't want to send them to a government school, because they do not provide a quality education, so people are worried about the future of their children.

Our school was founded in the hope of providing quality education. Unfortunately, lack of funds has meant that we have been unable to provide all the basic requirements for this.
The school has a different approach to teaching the children. For example, we would like our students to have a broader knowledge of different cultures, languages, customs etc. To achieve this, we hope to find volunteer teachers who could introduce new teaching methods and exchange ideas with our staff.

Suresh Sainju is one of the founders of the school.

For other net participants we can offer overnight facilities. Further we can offer expert guidance through trained staff, deliver a lecture, procure expert information and establish new contacts in the field of our work. We will be glad to provide accommodation to volunteer teachers and share the ideas on teaching management. We would also be happy to have exchange students from any country of the world.
