Über uns
The Millions of Friends Association (AMP) (Asociatia Milioane de Prieteni in Romanian language) is an NGO acting for the welfare of animals in Romania since 1997. Founded by Cristina Lapis, a former journalist from Brasov who dedicated her life to animal rescue, the Association has helped over 30000 animals since the beginning of the activity.
Our Mission
AMP is a non-governmental organization guided exclusively by the principle of respecting and protecting all forms of life.
Our Vision
We take over the wounded animals, the sick ones and the veterinary medical emergencies.
We want to stop abandonment, unnecessary euthanasia, cruelty to animals and we fight for the release of wild animals, captive under inhumane conditions.
We own a private dog shelter that can accommodate over 400 dogs where we care for animals without owners victims of car crashes, accidents, human cruelty and we offer the only free of charge, 24 hours line for veterinary emergencies in Brasov. Also we are doing free sterilizations during all the year for dogs and cats with owners.
In 2005 we started the biggest animal welfare project in Europe – AMP Libearty bear sanctuary that now accommodates over 100 bears that were held captive in unimaginable conditions before reaching the sanctuary – a lifetime responsibility we have decided to take for the care and medical treatment of these animals. We saved until now 132 captive bears.
Project:
Since 2013, The Millions of Friends Association (AMP) developed an education project for the welfare of the animals in schools in Brasov, with the approval of the Brasov City Hall and the Schools Local Management Center. This project was also encouraged by SANCO (The Animal Health Direction) of the European Commission.
AMP has developed a school manual for pupils of 5th and 6th grade and we are now working on two other manuals for smaller children. During the project, the members of AMP who are legally eligible to teach went to 23 schools from Brasov and offered free manuals and lessons to over 5000 children. We also need to use specific teaching materials – children’s manuals, a teacher’s guide, work sheets, educational videos, questionnaires and tests. The program also includes group visits to dog shelters, the zoo and the Libearty Bear Sanctuary. The feedback revealed that over 70% of the kids involved in the project developed a raised compassion for animals.
Needs:
*Covering the costs of the manuals and work materials: 7500 euro/year *Recruiting and paying the extra personnel to reach more students: 10000 euro/year *Preparing and organization of the 2 training courses for teachers in Romania who want to teach the animal welfare lessons in their classes (transport, home and food, renting a conference hall): 5000 euro *Transport for children to the dog shelter and the bear sanctuary: 5000 euro TOTAL expenses: 27.500 euro
