- Aid for developing countries
About us
Haiti is the poorest country in the western world, with the highest degree of starvation in the western world. The organisation Haiti Aid Germany is a non-profit making association responsible for German Haiti aid organisations, with its own areas of focus. Haiti Aid Germany cooperates with the main Haiti aid organisations such as the Don Bosco Mission in Bonn and Unsere kleinen Brüder und Schwestern (Our Little Brothers and Sisters) in Karlsruhe.
The third poorest country in the world is helped by means of projects and donations. For over 20 years, we have been supporting an orphanage, a children’s village, several schools and disabled and needy individuals there. These long years of experience have shown us that development aid has to be rethought. Helping people to help themselves is a more sensible concept.
Current projects:
• Food Aid Programme: setting up a food distribution centre to alleviate hunger.
•Business start-up programme with the slogan „A spade in the hand is worth more than a handful of rice“.
• Allocation of micro credits: as soon as any profit is made, a kind of tax (10% of the profit) has to be paid back. These proceeds are then used for further business start-ups. (This received an award as best foreign aid concept of the year 2004).
• Building an orphanage and a school.
