About us
Strategic Humanitarian Services, Cameroon abbreviated SHUMAS-Cameroon is a not for profit development nongovernmental organization that is focused on integrated sustainable rural development,
Mission
To improve lives, reduce poverty and empower people to realize their fullest potentials without limiting posterity from meeting theirs.
To achieve this, SHUMAS has different programs, which include inter-alia:
• Agriculture and women empowerment Program: We have trained and graduated 102 farming community leaders and unemployed youths on long course programs and above 4000 practising farmers on shortprograms from the SHUMAS integrated organic farmingtraining and Demonstration centre. Under this program we have also supported 52 women groups with an average membership of 30 women with micro credits
• Health, water and sanitation program: SHUMAS has sponsored the training 21 nurses for rural health centres, rehabilitated and equipped 10health centres and provided potable to 50 rural community health centres
• Education program: SHUMAS has constructed and equipped more than 500 classrooms, provided about 200 toilets with hand washing facilities attached in schools constructed, instituted a functional school environmental program, and provided potable water in all schools she has constructed
• Environmental management and protection program: We have replaced 1.3 million Eucalyptus tree with Nitrogen fixing trees and water shed trees on farm lands and water catchments respectively. We have also instituted a functional school environmental program in more than 50 schools and train and promote the use renewable energy at the SHUMAS Biofarm centre
• Social welfare program: SHUMAS has trained above 130 people with special needs on varying skills adaptable to their disabilities and provided them with start-up materials to set up their workshops
• Volunteering and internship program: SHUMAS has provided voluntary opportunities to more than 400 national and international volunteers.
