About us
Miracles in Action was founded in 2004 as a response to the extreme poverty witnessed by our founders, Penny and Noreen Rambacher. Since that time, we have grown into a wide network of volunteers and supporters who further our mission of helping poor families to help themselves through education, vocation and sustainable development projects
Miracles in Action seeks out under-served pockets of need in rural Guatemala and we research projects that focus on education, vocational training, and sustainable development and other basics like providing clean water, safe stoves, and ecofilters. We select projects that achieve long-term results, improve quality of life, and allow truly impoverished people to help themselves. We believe in working in partnership with poor Guatemalan people, giving them a hand up, instead of a hand-out.
Projects in the areas of education and health:
• School Construction with the help of in country partners (community, government and in country charity)
• Vocational Training: With in country partners we fund a vocational center that now provides training programs in cooking, restaurant management, carpentry, mechanics, drafting, computers, weaving and sewing.
• Student Scholarships: We sponsor scholarships for children living in rural areas to attend school. The scholarships cover the cost of tuition, books, supplies, uniform, and student follow up.
• Teacher Training and Educational Resource Center: The center provides workshops along with a lending library and computer lab.
• Clean Water Projects: Miracles In Action sponsors water systems that bring a water pipe to each home, improving hygiene and quality of life.
• Water Filters: One cause of death in young children is dehydration and diarrhea from drinking dirty water with parasites and bacteria. Primarily working in villages where we have built schools or other development projects, Miracles in Action has placed over 1200 water filters in homes in Guatemala.
• Sponsoring Stoves: New safe, vented stoves are designed to use less wood, resulting in less clear cutting of the rainforest. They vent smoke out of the house and the design prevents children from many respiratory infections and high levels of carbon monoxide in their homes.and from being seriously burned.
• Supporting the Guatemalan Cottage Industry: Miracles in Action provides income to many Guatemalan women by selling beaded jewelry, keychains, and textiles — all handmade in indigenous Mayan communities. We have a cadre of volunteers who sell these handicrafts at churches, craft fairs, farmers markets and house parties across the country.
