About us
FUNDENOR AQ’AB’AL is a non-governmental not-for-profit organization registered in Guatemala with the aim of promoting and encouraging integrated development for rural and urban communities in Guatemala.
The Foundation for Northern Development AQ’AB’AL, was formerly the World Neighbours Guatemala Polochic Program until June 2009. The new foundation is a continuation of the Polochic Program. FUNDENOR continues to apply the same philosophy and methodology: people-centered development by strengthening their own cognitive abilities and practices.
Our vision is to contribute to the comprehensive development of individuals and communities as local stakeholders, transforming the constraints that cause exclusion, in a way that is based on respect for nature and humanity.
FUNDENOR AQ’AB’AL develops processes to contribute to the comprehensive strengthening of individuals and communities, encouraging the integration of the local social fabric, promoting the use of alternative production models and providing relevant resources to achieve the socio-economic well-being for the entire community.
Specific objectives:
• Make strategic alliances with national and international organizations for the management and implementation of integrated development projects, targeting the most vulnerable communities of Verapaz, located in the center-north of the Republic.
• Develop strategies and specific projects, prioritizing the productive and entrepreneurial activities that contribute to local income generation.
• Strengthen the capacities of community based organizations and development councils to deal with issues of organization, administration and management of local development projects.
• Promote the concept of Casa Hogar Salud Integral (Healthy Homes) that reinforces the perception of health and family welfare, developing projects for the improvement of the physical space of the home and its surroundings.
• Generate opportunities for socio-cultural training to promote positive changes in behaviour and conduct that leads towards equal opportunities (gender, age, ethnicity, education) within community groups.
• Promote the respect and dissemination of cultural views and values within the communities where we work, strengthening the processes of generational change at the level of individuals and groups.
For other net participants we can offer an expert guidance through trained staff, give an expert opinion, procure expert information and establish new contacts in the field of our work.
