About us
Community Empowerment for Progress Organization-CEPO is a non-profit, civil society, South Sudanese organization, registered in 2010. It was formed to engage University students and fresh South Sudanese University graduates in building their respective communities/ societies on a voluntary basis.The organization was initially formed in Khartoum in 1999 and consisted of mostly University students, but its scope broadened after it was established in Juba, Southern Sudan as separate entity. At its inception, the organization was mainly looking at establishment of Justice and Confidence Centre for provision of legal aid services and peace building and conflict transformation through peace dialogues.
CEPO is engaged in the areas of Peace and conflict mitigation, human rights, rule of law, livelihood, governance and democratic transformation.
Vision
CEPO’s vision is building capacity and capability of society members towards development through self reliance and genuine intervention.
Mission
CEPO’s mission is to Strengthen and Promote the capacity and capability of society members on peace building, security reform, culture of human rights, protection, democratic principles and livelihood.
Objectives
• To involve community members in livelihood activities, economical and agricultural projects
• To bring the process of policy development in the legislature closer to the members of the society.
• To make policy development processes more participatory for institutionalizing accountability and transparency of government and leadership
• To promote community members interaction with the security organs in order to achieve a suitable and secure society
• To promote and strengthen effective engagement of community members in peace building, human rights and protection.
Programs
• Capacity Building for CSO's & State Institutions: CEPO gives training to state institutions at County level on Local Government Act 2009. This training specifically focuses on transparency and accountability.
• Democratic Transformation: Civic education and culture of elections
• Good Governance: Promote culture of transparency and accountability
• Human Rights & Rule of Law: Awareness rising on the existing laws; Publication of human rights violations
• Justices & Accountability: Human rights awareness raising, monitoring and reporting
• Peace & Conflict Mitigation: Conduct peace dialogue among conflicting communities
• Security Sector Reform: CEPO organizes dialogues between communities and representatives of the security sector
• South Sudan Multistakeholders IGF
• Sustainable Livelihoods & Development: CEPO gives livelihood trainings on sustainable fishing practices to the communities living along River Nile, modern farming methods and agro business techniques, vocational trainings on tailoring and dying, Art and craft designing, bee keeping, cooperative societies and income generating activities to the conflict affected women in selected POCs within Juba city.
