About us

Green-Books.org, established in 2014, is a non-profit organisation dedicated to promoting eco-education.
The idea for our first Eco-Education center—formerly known as an “Eco-Library”—sprouted in 2013, when founder Petr Hindrich was surfing on the remote Indonesian island of Sumba. During his stay with the local community, Petr discovered children were growing up without access to books or information about nature. He suspected that a lack of environmental education might be playing a major part in causing the pollution, waste, and other eco issues running rampant on the island and across Indonesia. Petr went looking for the best children’s nature books he could find in the capital city, Jakarta. Cramming his backpack, Petr brought more than 50 books back to Sumba. Motivated by the positive reaction of the children and community in Sumba, Petr dreamed up a way he could promote environmental education across Indonesia.

Our mission
To educate Indonesian children on the natural systems that make life on earth possible and inspire them to live sustainably.

Our vision is to fuel the development of thousands of Eco-Education Centers around the world, by empowering every single child to become a leader in the movement towards protecting the natural environment.

What we do
We create Eco-Education Centers: Eco-Education Centers are community hubs where kids learn about nature and sustainable practices. An Eco-Education Center is a unique platform that consist of three pillars: Eco-Activities, Green Incentives and Green Educator
What are Eco-Activities?
Eco-Activities are hands one games and activities based on experiential learning, including:
• Getting Inspired: interactive games, storytelling, up-cycling arts & crafts and play acting etc.;
• Taking Action: composting, veggie garden, tree planting and cookery etc.
• Excursions: Bird watching, field trips and beach clean-ups etc..
Through these diverse activities, kids learn about a wide range of interesting and important eco-topics — from pollution and climate change to biodiversity and nutrition.
What are Green Incentives?
At every Eco-Education Center, Green Educators lead Eco-Activities and give us feedback. According to their level of involvement we reward them with sustainable incentives, including:
• Current, colorful, and engaging kids books in Indonesian on topics like fauna, flora, ecosystems, and the environment
• Water filters
• Reusable tote bags and water bottles
The most active local coordinators are invited to attend the Green Educator Course, a training workshop held by Green School Bali.
Who are Green Educators)
• We believe the most effective way to spread any knowledge is to educate the educators. That’s why we provide educators with online resources to develop their skills and invite the most dedicated coordinators to the Green Educators Course in Bali.
• The goal is for our Eco-Education Centers to become community learning centers for promoting sustainable practices. Through our efforts, we hope to contribute to sustainable, happier and healthier communities that become powerful forces in protecting our planet.
