About us
Nepal Agroforestry Foundation (NAF) is a leading non-profit making National NGO and a clearing house for agroforestry in Nepal established in 1991 by leaders of community-based organizations (CBOs), Agroforestry practitioner farmers, various professionals of Nepal and is registered under the Social Welfare Council, Government of Nepal.
NAF, as an umbrella organization, provides innovative agriculture techniques and agroforestry/community forestry support to CBOs, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), community forest users groups (CFUGs), and savings & credit cooperatives (SCOs) and is committed to strengthen the capacities of poor and marginalized communities and groups to meet their basic needs.
It provides information, guidance and support to local authorities, cooperatives and farmers in setting up a sustainable agricultural and agroforestry system. NAF programs has helped to strengthen the capacity of local farmers to adapt agroforestry, to build resilience of rural people, improve and empower the rural women, in the several working areas mostly in mid hills and mountain areas.
NAF facilitated to establish of Nepal Agroforestry Seed Cooperative Ltd. (NAFSCOL), a cooperative organization owned by local farmers involved in NAF agroforestry program; and to institutionalize the production and marketing of agroforestry seeds to interested organizations, farmers and individuals involved in agroforestry. As a sister organization of NAF, NAFSCOL deals with farmers and other stakeholders in supplying planting materials, particularly the quality seeds and identifying seed production pocket areas for promotion of quality seeds. As the recent advancement in promoting applied agriculture, forestry and agroforestry in the country, NAF promoted a forestry college, Kathmandu Forestry College (KAFCOL) in 2005.
Our mission
To contribute to national prosperity and green economic development by improving the living standards of resource-poor and marginalized communities through appropriate research, development, and networking.
Objectives:
• To contribute for biodiversity and conservation of forest, agriculture and watershed systems
• To contribute for economic development of resource poor and marginal farmers through forest and agro based enterprise development
• To promote climate farming and carbon trading through public-private and community partnerships
• To contribute for knowledge products development and their effective dissemination in the field of agriculture, forestry, soil and water conservation, climate change and environment
• To provide policy support to the government agencies and run advocacy programme for the well being of socially and economically disadvantaged groups like poor households, women, Dalits, Janjatis, Madhesis and religious minorities

• One House One Tap: Ensuring access to water and a cleaner environment for Tamang Population in Rasuwa District
• Reducing food insecurity and improving the living conditions of women and farmers in the Rasuwa district in Nepal
• Plantation Project in Rasuwa District, Nepal
• Environmental conservation and promotion of non-wood forest chains in the Langtang National Park of Naukunda Rural Municipality of Rasuwa District, Nepal
• Model farms: Improving Living Condition of the communities of Rasuwa, Strengthening Agriculture Value Chain
• Enhancing Livelihoods from improved forest management in Nepal (EnLiFT 2)
